Overview:
The Chicago White Sox are seeking an experienced Director of Marketing and Advertising to lead the team's integrated marketing initiatives across branding, ticket sales, revenue generation, and fan engagement. This role oversees omnichannel strategy across traditional and digital platforms-collaborating with internal teams, MLB, and media partners to deliver measurable results.
Key responsibilities include managing the annual marketing and advertising budgets, executing high-impact campaigns, refining segmentation strategies for both general and Hispanic markets, and optimizing media performance across paid, email, web, and app channels. The Director will lead branding efforts and support test-and-learn strategies to drive fan growth and engagement.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in both traditional and digital media, a track record of campaign success, and the leadership to drive cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
Job responsibilities:
Marketing:
• Develop and execute marketing plans for both the general and Hispanic markets, ensuring alignment with overall brand and business goals.
• Ensure brand and messaging consistency across all marketing materials by overseeing the creative development, production, and execution of assets.
• Collaborate with MLB Marketing and internal departments (Business Analytics, Ticket Sales, Sponsorship, Social, PR, Design Services, and Digital Content) to ensure cross-functional alignment.
• Manage timelines and scheduling for pre-sales and on-sales, integrating digital campaign support to drive awareness and conversions.
• Oversee marketing initiatives that drive ticket sales and enhance fan engagement through owned channels such as whitesox.com, MLB Ballpark App, and SMS.
Advertising:
• Oversee media buying and performance optimization, including budget allocation, scheduling, campaign implementation, and post-campaign analysis with a strong focus on ROI.
• Develop and implement omnichannel media strategies across TV, radio, digital, social, and out-of-home.
• Define target audiences, implement segmentation strategies, and lead integrated campaigns that drive growth and engagement.
• Lead digital advertising efforts, including paid social, display, programmatic, SEO/SEM, and email marketing, in collaboration with internal teams and MLB's performance media partners.
• Partner with internal teams and MLB to lead paid media, SEO/SEM, programmatic, email marketing, and digital acquisition campaigns.
• Ensure all advertising campaigns-both digital and traditional-are aligned with broader marketing goals and use performance data to inform strategic adjustments.
• Oversee all advertising and digital media inquiries, digital performance reporting, test-and-learn initiatives, and best practice implementation.
Branding:
• Lead the development and execution of annual branding campaigns, including creative ideation and cross-platform storytelling that extends across digital, broadcast, in-stadium, and community channels.
• Identify and execute cross-branding opportunities with external partners, extending reach through co-branded content, sponsored campaigns, and activations across digital and physical spaces.
• Collaborate with marketing team on fan promotions that drive engagement, ticket sales, and digital interactions across owned platforms like the MLB Ballpark App and whitesox.com.
• Ensure the brand is authentically and strategically represented across all digital environments, including mobile apps and web platforms, working closely with MLB to maintain and enhance the digital fan experience.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, business, or related field.
• 7–10 years of experience in marketing, advertising, or related areas, with supervisory responsibilities.
• Demonstrated success managing large-scale campaigns across digital and traditional channels.
• Experience with media planning, project management, creative oversight, and performance analysis.
• Strong understanding of marketing technologies, audience segmentation, and the Chicago media market.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with a collaborative, team-first mindset.
• Detail-oriented with exceptional time management and organizational abilities.
• Passion for sports, entertainment, and innovation in fan engagement.
Compensation:
• $100,000 - $110,000
