Director of Park Operations – Chicago White Sox
Overview:
The Director of Park Operations is responsible for the day-to day oversight and management of the Park Operations Department of the Chicago White Sox. The ideal candidate must have experience in the operations of a large sports facility, including both game day and off-season functionality. Directo supervisory experience of both fulltime and seasonal personnel required.
Responsibilities:
• Direct and manage the ballpark operations and event staff; ensure that park operations, including day of game aspects related to safety and security, building operations, parking, union janitorial crews, grounds crew staff, contractors, service providers (first aid, cleaning, parking consultants) vendors and logistical operations meet or exceed organizational standards.
• Lead the 24/7 Building Operations Team, both full-time and part-time personnel. Provide guidance, leadership, coaching, mentoring and effective performance feedback for continuous improvements and team building. Participate in the interviewing, hiring, and training, and development of all personnel.
• Ensure policies and procedures remain in compliance with Major League Baseball (MLB) Best Stadium Operating Procedures (BSOP), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Safety Act, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws
• Responsible for enhancing and developing standard operating procedure (SOP), including bit not limited to:
o Increasing the accountability of the building operations and security staff members; provide all necessary training and real-time support
o promote efficiency, quality of service, and a safe work environment;
o Manage the day to-day operational policies and procedures for overall building operations
o provide overall administrative supervision including tplanning, organizing, scheduling, and monitoring of work assignments for all operational personnel
• Assist in the coordination of the use of ballpark with other organizational personnel. Ensure all necessary departments (Groundskeeping Facility Maintenance, Game Presentation, Scoreboard Operations, etc) complete all required preparation/notifications
• Oversee and direct the daily activities within all aspects of the building operations, including housekeeping, snow removal and other related functionalities.
• Work closely with Director of Maintenance and Sr. Director of Park Operations to ensure all building systems are operating at optimal levels at all times. Work in conjunction with the Director of Maintenance to maintain detailed records of items that have been repaired within the stadium (date, time, remedy).
• Conduct regular/ routine visual inspections of the ballpark;
• Assist with game day responses of incoming facility issues as well as assisting in the ballpark Command Center - receiving, logging, and dispatching personnel for all maintenance and facilities related issues
• Support Sr. Director, Park Operations in execution of all safety & security measures, issues and mitigation tactics within the ballpark.
• Conduct oversight and actively participate in event planning, including related staff meetings. Share relevant information and gain feedback relating to required areas of improvement, both internal and external
• Acts as a liaison with outside organizations, vendors, and operational service contractors to include, but not limited to, equipment, custodial, pest control, waste & recycling, shipping & receiving, service providers and other miscellaneous trades who frequently service the facilities and events.
• Work with Sr. Director, Park Operations to create and manage the departments operating budgets and capital projects
• Continually seek out industry related quality services and best practices. Review methods to improve efficiency, level of service, personnel performance, and reduction of operating costs.
• Develop and maintain facility department filing and record system
• Perform other duties, functions, special projects, and responsibilities, as assigned.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field required. Equivalent, relevant work experience and professional certifications may be considered in lieu of college degree.
• 7 years of measurable, progressive experience in Park Operations at a large scale sport/ entertainment facility
• 5 years of direct supervisory experience. Experience managing multi-staff levels preferred.
• Strong communication skills required, both verbal and written; must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups
• Must possess strong leadership skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced , collaborative environment
• Ability to multi-task a must
• Budget development and oversight experience
• Experience working with local authorities, municipalities, government agencies, and the local community.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards associated with various trades work and the pertinent safety precautions.
• Above average general computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook
• Ability to use event management scheduling platform (Venue Ops)
• Ability to use AutoCAD or equivalent Computer Aided Design programs, a plus Ability to read and interpret construction documents including specifications, blueprints and as-builts
• Ability to use the CMMS (computerized maintenance management software) a plus
• Ability to speak Spanish a plus
• Must have the flexibility to work irregular hours, game days, evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
• Frequent walking, squatting and lifting up to 25 pounds required.
