CUBS PRODUCTIONS 2023 OPPORTUNITIES:
The Cubs Productions department is seeking to fill several seasonal positions for the 2023 season within the preidentified Video Board Operations areas below. Candidates who are qualified, collaborative, and passionate about putting the gameday show on at Wrigley Field and assist in making the friendly confines experience a memorable one for all fans are encouraged to apply.
VIDEO BOARD OPERATIONS ROLES INCLUDE:
Video Board Director/Technical Director (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Assistant Director, Video Board Operations
• This position closely partners with the Executive Producer and Assistant Director, Video Board Operations to ensure quality control, provide technical support, and run live production on event day. This position will train and execute as either the Gameday Director or Gameday Technical Director for each event they are scheduled for depending on the needs of the production.
• Line-directing live productions in-house including Cubs baseball games as well as other events that take place at Wrigley Field or Gallagher Way
• Makes the real-time decisions regarding what pictures and sounds will be broadcast; interprets data and information to decide camera angles, features, and sequences
• Ability to operate Ross Production switcher (or similar) during home games and events
• Responsible for switching video sources through a video matrix switcher, performing live digital effects and transitions, plus inset of pre-recorded and live material and graphics as instructed by the Game Producer or Director
• Responsible for building and updating all transitions, macros, backgrounds, etc., prior to start of games
• Responsible for the technical quality of the signal being recorded or broadcast and will utilize various measuring devices and displays to ensure quality control
• Monitor audio and mixing as well as audio recordings throughout productions
• Responsible for providing input into the creative side of the production on both the video and audio aspects of the programming
Required Qualifications:
• Knowledge of the real-time live sporting event directing process
• Wide range of event production experience, ranging from AP, AD, Producer and Director responsibilities, as well as a deep understanding of technical roles
• Ability to clearly and concisely communicate to all crew members during the live broadcast
• Minimum of 3-5 years' experience and strong technical directing background with experience in control room and studio
• Previous experience switching games (including building macros and transitions)
• Extensive knowledge of video transmission displays and projection techniques
• Ability to creatively collaborate with other production team members
• Strong project management skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, holidays and commit to 60 or more events as need
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience operating and programming Ross production switchers (Acuity or Carbonite)
• Live sports in-venue video board experience a plus
Wrigley Field DJ (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Assistant Director, Video Board Operations
• The Wrigley Field DJ is responsible for all audio throughout the ballpark at Wrigley Field including music and organ. The DJ is also responsible for mixing audio to appropriate levels to ensure optimal listening levels across the ballpark.
Responsibilities:
• Mix audio sources (Music, Organ, Clips etc.) to appropriate levels
• Prepare and execute playing of pre-game, in-game, situational and post-game music selections
Required Qualifications:
• General knowledge of baseball and in-depth understanding of different situations throughout the game
• Understanding of Cubs fan base and Wrigley Field history
• Deep knowledge music, both current trends and classic hits
• Ability to listen and adjust audio levels in real-time
• Ability to commit to 30 or more games as need
Video Board Camera Operator (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Assistant Director, Video Board Operations
• The Camera Operator is responsible for capturing footage per the direction of the Executive Producer, Assistant Director of Video Board Operations, and Gameday director including shot composition and style.
Responsibilities:
• Operate wireless ENG or stationary camera for video board feed
• Operate cinema style camera to capture event footage
• Ability to take direction regarding composition and framing from the Game Day Director
• Position shots as requested by game producer or director
• Setup and breakdown of camera and support equipment
• Planning, preparing, and rehearsing camera sequences
• Ability to follow camera scripts
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum one year of professional experience operating a camera at a sporting event
• Ability to life ~35 pounds
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience using long lenses (40x or greater)
• Experience setting up and operating Sony HDC -2400 cameras
• Experience operating cinema-style cameras, specifically Sony FS7, Sony FS5 and Canon C300
• Ability to commit to 20 or more games as needed
Video Board Replay Operator (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Assistant Director, Video Board Operations
• Create replay clips for playback on video board
• Tag clips and build playlists to be recalled throughout the game
• Recall highlights as directed by Game Producer and Director
• Tag clips with metadata and send to network storage as needed
Required Qualifications:
• Experience operating replay equipment in broadcast truck or control room
• Ability to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, holidays and commit to 30 or more events as need
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Evertz DreamCatcher replay system
Video Board Graphics (CG) Operator (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Assistant Director, Video Board Operations
• Operate Ross Xpression (or similar CG) on game day
• Provide graphics, transitions, headshots, etc. as indicated on the run-of-show or as requested by the gameday director, Assistant Director of Video Board Operations, or Executive Producer
• Build graphics and animations as well as updating templates and connecting to a data feed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum one year experience Operating Ross Xpression (or similar CG) during live broadcast or event
• Minimum one year experience creating graphics on Ross Xpression (or similar CG).
• Ability to commit to 40 or more games as need
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of baseball rules and statistics
• Must have a strong attention to detail
• Must have excellent spelling and grammar
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSP
• Experience building graphics that pull data from data feeds
• Experience writing copy for sports graphics
• Experience building graphics on Ross Xpression from scratch
Production Assistant (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Assistant Director, Video Board Operations
The Production Assistant will help support all aspects of game day video board operations and occasionally support our Cubs Productions team outside of game days.
