CUBS PRODUCTIONS & VIDEO BOARD OPPORTUNITIES
The Cubs Productions department is seeking to fill several seasonal positions for the 2022 season within the preidentified Video Board Operations areas below. Candidates who are qualified, collaborative, and passionate about putting the gameday show on at Wrigley Field and assist in making the friendly confines experience a memorable one for all fans are encouraged to apply.
- Interview & Hiring Timeline: interviews with qualified candidates are anticipated to begin in late January / early February and targeting an early March start date in preparation for our 2022 season.
VIDEO BOARD OPERATIONS ROLES INCLUDE: (Reporting to: Manager Video Board Operations)
• Production Assistant
• Video Board Display Operator
• Video Board Dakstats Operator
• Replay Operator
• Gameday Graphics (CG) Operator
• Camera Operator
Production Assistant (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
The Production Assistant will help support all aspects of game day video board operations and occasionally support our Cubs Productions team outside of game days.
Responsibilities:
• Perform various production duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
• Support camera operators on location and on game days
• Logging video clips
• Research statistics
• Edit highlights and event recaps
• Basic audio mixing
• Clip playback for video board
• Occasional shooting and editing special events around Wrigley Field and Chicagoland area
• Occasional administrative duties
• Assist with graphic projects, including but not limited to headshots and updating templates
• Assisting with larger projects
• Assist the control room staff with production elements on game days as needed
Required Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop
• Familiarity with cinema style cameras, preferably Sony FS7/FS5
• General knowledge of the Chicago Cubs and the sport of baseball
• Ability to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, holidays and commit to 30 or more events as need
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong knowledge of the rules of baseball and how to score games
• Experience working in control room or broadcast truck environment
• Experience operating other cinema style cameras such as Canon C300, Black Magic URSA, etc.
• Extensive knowledge of the Chicago Cubs and its history
• Familiarity with systems used to support video board operations
Video Board Display Operator (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
The Video Board Display Operator is responsible for executing content on the LED and video boards for events and gamedays at Wrigley Field.
Responsibilities:
• Using Ross Video software to operate video boards, wall boards and fascia boards
• Import and format sponsor and team logos/graphics and information as well as pre-game and in-game presentation elements
• Execute content, sponsorships material and in-game elements as indicated on the run of show or as requested by the Manager, Video Board Operations
• Troubleshoot both hardware and software issues that arise as part of an in-game entertainment system
• Assist with ad hoc graphic requests to support creative needs at games and special events (i.e. Cubs Convention, season ticket holder receptions, Ownership engagements, etc).
Required Qualifications:
• Experience working live sporting event, baseball preferred
• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
• Ability to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, holidays and commit to 40 or more games as need
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience operating video board displays
• Experience with Ross Xpression and Dashboard software highly preferred
• Experience with Adobe Premiere and After Effects
Video Board Dakstats Operator (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
Video Board Dakstats Operator is responsible for maintaining and displaying accurate scoring and statistics of games through the Daktronics scoreboard and statistics software.
Responsibilities:
• Demonstrated expert-level ability and knowledge of Daktronics DakStats scoring software
• Operate scoring equipment to feed all baseball scoring information as needed to Wrigley Field displays and monitor the progress of the game
• Prepare and download the home and visiting lineups and stats prior to gates opening
Required Qualifications:
• Extensive experience operating electronic scoreboard equipment, specifically for baseball, in a professional sports venue.
• Minimum one-year professional experience with baseball scoring software
• Extensive knowledge of the game of baseball for quickness of scoring
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
• Ability to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, holidays and commit to 40 or more events as need
Preferred Qualifications:
• Two or more years of professional experience with Daktronics DakStats software
Replay Operator (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
Responsibilities:
• Create replay clips for playback on video board
• Tag clips and build playlists to be recalled throughout the game
• Recall highlights as directed by Game Producer and Director
• Tag clips with metadata and send to network storage as needed
Required Qualifications:
• Experience operating replay equipment in broadcast truck or control room
• Ability to work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, holidays and commit to 30 or more events as need
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Evertz DreamCatcher replay system
Gameday Graphics (CG) Operator (Part-Time Non-Exempt)
Responsibilities:
• Operate Ross Xpression (or similar CG) on game day
• Provide graphics, transitions, headshots, etc. as indicated on the run-of-show or as requested by the Manager, Video Board Operations or Executive Producer
• Build graphics and animations as well as updating templates and connecting to a data feed
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum one year experience Operating Ross Xpression (or similar CG) during live broadcast or event
• Minimum one year experience creating graphics on Ross Xpression (or similar CG).
• Ability to commit to 40 or more games as need
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of baseball rules and statistics
• Must have a strong attention to detail
• Must have excellent spelling and grammar
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience building graphics that pull data from data feeds
• Experience writing copy for sports graphics
• Experience building graphics on Ross Xpression from scratch
