This is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
Work Schedule: Jan 9 - Mar 1; 18 hours/wk; 1-2 days based on Assistant's schedule; plus Fridays starting Feb 15 - Apr 12, 12pm-2pm.

The Artistic Research Assistant's work will primarily focus on research and dramaturgy support on a current commission entitled Mariology by artist Nancy Keystone with Critical Mass Performance Group. Mariology is a live, multi-disciplinary performance, as well as a series of interactive encounters with communities, which explores the cultish power of the Virgin Mary through her many manifestations, appropriations, and interpretations-Mary as weapon of control and colonization, and a source of faith, comfort, desire, and transgression.
The Assistant will be housed in Center Theatre Group's Artistic Department, and will work closely with commissioned artist Nancy Keystone, a writer/director/scenic designer, and founding artistic director of Critical Mass Performance Group (CMPG). Named 2013's Best Theatre Company by LA Weekly, CMPG is a collaborative ensemble, known for category-busting new works and adaptations of classic texts, encompassing a variety of forms: epic historical pieces, intimate interactive salons, public happenings, social practice. The Assistant's primary enterprise will be to help with a wide variety of research for the project (some of the areas include: historical subject matter, religious scholarship, anthropology, contemporary/popular culture, literature, philosophy, visual art, film, music, language translation, etc.). Research sites might include libraries, special archives, internet, video stores, churches, etc. In addition, Assistant will be responsible for photocopying and organizing of materials. The Assistant may also be asked to assist with organizing and scheduling any interviews that the artist may be interested in conducting for research purposes and possible transcription of interviews.
Primary Projects and Learning Opportunities
1. Assist artist in archival research on a variety of subjects related to Mariology including historical, popular culture, literature, etc.
2. Assist in copying and organizing research material
3. Assist in planning interviews with subjects and interview transcription
4. Other duties as assigned.
