POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Technical Director, plans and executes the physical productions at Center Theatre Group's three theatres - The Mark Taper Forum, Kirk Douglas Theatre, and The Ahmanson Theatre. Ensure the successful interpretation, engineering, realization, and safety of all scenic designs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with the Technical Director in budgeting designs based on designer drawings and adjust/present options to designers as needed.
• Work with the visiting design teams and the CTG Production Staff to achieve workable and safe productions throughout all stages of the production (from design through technical rehearsal).
• Work with the Production Team to find solutions to technical problems and challenges.
• Bid shows to commercial scenery shops, supervise the technical design process and provide quality control.
• Work with the Shop Supervisor to lead builds and draft construction drawings for shows built in house by CTG.
• Prepare ground plan and section drawings of the designs in AutoCAD, including tech design, rigging, and deck drawings. Create and provide drawings required by stage management or other staff and designers.
• Estimate and track labor and material costs for productions and advise production management of the potential consequences of any proposed changes to allow informed decisions to be made about purchasing.
• In conjunction with Production Management, supervise IATSE crew in the Mark Taper Forum and Ahmanson Theatre in accordance with the applicable IATSE Local 33 contracts.
• Supervise load-in and strikes of Kirk Douglas Theatre productions and outside events, including scenic calls. Take an active role as carpenter, rigger, or otherwise as needed during load in, build and strike calls.
• Work with the Production Department to maintain a safe working environment in all of CTG's theatrical venues and shop environments, as well as within the constructs of a production's design.
• Attend production meetings, pre-tech run-thrus, load-ins, technical rehearsals and performances as needed. Keep the Technical Director informed of important developments.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Update soft good, rigging, tool and equipment inventories. Maintain Tech Specs and Theatre drawings in concert with Production Management.
• Create and assemble information required for Fire Permits. Schedule and coordinate inspections of theatre and productions by Fire Marshal in coordination with Production Management.
• Work with the Production Department to maintain a safe working environment in all of CTG's venues and shop environments.
• Serve as a member of the Safety Task Force.
• Entrusted with a company credit card. Responsible for tracking and coding expenditures in a timely fashion.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge and essential skills
a. Strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
b. Excellent technical skills, scenic construction techniques, rigging, and budget management.
c. Excellent draftsperson, with strong working knowledge of AutoCAD.
d. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs.
e. Clear and effective communicator, both written and verbal. Ability to work independently or collaboratively with designers, directors and other CTG staff.
f. Experience in working in a collaborative environment.
• Minimum requirements: Essential functions and abilities
a. Theatrical background and understanding of the theatrical process.
b. Ability to multi-task and work with deadlines. Must have ability to plan projects and work independently.
c. Ability to remain calm and productive in difficult situations demonstrating good ''people skills'' and a sense of humor.
d. Ability to work long hours which may include weekends and evenings especially during technical rehearsals.
e. Ability to travel extensively, both inside and outside of the country via plane, automobile, etc.
• Education, Experience and Licensing
a. Experience in any of the following technical positions including, but not limited to: Assistant Technical Director, Shop Supervisor, Draftsperson, Mechanical Engineer, Lead Carpenter, etc.
b. CPR/ AED/ First Aid training. Training will be provided by the company.
