Overview and Responsibilities:
CBS Atlanta, the brand-new station in the CBS stations group, is looking for a passionate, dynamic journalist to lead our team of Community Journalists! The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in both enterprise and breaking news journalism at a major broadcast media outlet and, preferably, will have some Atlanta work experience. We want local perspective to drive our storytelling team. The successful candidate will be an expert writer and on-air talent coach, capable of producing both written and visual content. This person will also need to have a strong desire to truly understand the community, by listening and engaging to gain clarity whenever needed.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Responsible for overseeing the daily editorial flow and enhancing the station's neighborhood news coverage across all platforms.
• Strong news judgment with a thirst for enterprise content and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
• Identify, develop, and manage a diverse portfolio of hyper-local stories, ranging from quick-turn, daily news pieces responding to breaking news to long-term, in- depth projects.
• Work in tandem with news managers, reporters, and anchors to support digital, broadcast, and streaming teams to ensure content is effectively distributed across all platforms.
• Utilize data journalism techniques and partners to grow storytelling and sourcing.
• Ensure every piece of content adheres to company editorial policies, legal considerations, and ethical standards.
• Excellent copyediting, writing and coaching skills.
• Regularly demonstrates the capabilities of a successful, people-first manager who champions constructive, impactful feedback and develops a collaborative newsroom environment.
Basic Qualifications
• Experience as a news manager and/or on-air talent preferred, with 5 of those years in a medium-to-large market.
• Must be results driven, innovative and demonstrate leadership and collaboration.
• Strong breaking news skills and proven track record of thriving in a fast-paced newsroom.
Additional Qualifications
• Ability to juggle in the day-to-day news world as well as future enterprise content opportunities and long-term projects.
• Extensive knowledge of the Atlanta market; including issues and topics that matter most to the community.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work a flexible schedule in a 24/7 news environment in addition to standard hours.
