Full Time Paid Internship
CBS Television Network Operations and Engineering is looking for students to join our Summer 2019 STEM Internship Program. Interns will spend 6 weeks with Technical Operations Broadcast Transmission, 2 weeks with an additional elective department and 1 week with finance.
LATX Broadcast Operations is responsible for the coordination of Television City Studios and third party distribution vendors in sending and receiving live and pre-recorded program feeds via satellite and fiber optic connections. LATX ensures that all inbound and outbound signals meet or exceed established technical standards. Interns will:
• Gain exposure to the setup of transmission equipment, signal routing, quality control, and monitoring of incoming and outgoing feeds associated with the CBS Television Network.
• Participate in supporting transmissions of other CBS and non CBS clients such as CBS Entertainment, CBS Sports, CBS News, and Syndication divisions along with shows produced out of Television City Studios for other networks.
• Assist in diagnosing and resolving technical issues to maintain proper on-air broadcast operations.
• Gain hands-on familiarization with broadcasting workflows, transmission encoder set up, routing switcher operation, IRD configuration and decoding, audio PIDS, HD/SDI metadata, caption encoding, Nielsen encoding, audio mapping, HD/SDI, ASI, Dolby channel encoding, audio phase relationships, MPEG compression, multiplexing, encryption, and data transport standards.
Qualifications:
• • • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university throughout the duration of the internship
• Electrical engineering or broadcast majors preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with technology, including Microsoft Office
• High attention to detail
• Ability and eagerness to learn
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in an active broadcast environment
• Ability to perform under high time pressure and adapt to fast-paced environment
• Comfortable with being self-directed and focused on a single project
