KCAL, CBS News Los Angeles is in search of a dynamic and highly skilled Sr. Manager of Booking to lead our efforts in bringing newsmakers and relevant guests to our morning news programs. In this role, you will work directly with station management, executive producers, on-air talent and show producers as you leverage your deep list of contacts to secure interviews with celebrities, politicians and subject matter experts who can provide depth and context to inform and entertain our audience.
Responsibilities:
• Secures top-tier and exclusive guests for live and recorded interviews
• You will be responsible for cultivating relationships, monitoring the news and taking initiative on finding the appropriate guest voices under the pressure of news deadlines
• Develop a deep list of experts and topical and special subject who can appear on TV with short notice
• You will conduct pre-interviews and do background research on all guests and topics
• Be proactive by pitching ideas and bringing your expertise to the table to elevate our content
• Lead our news operations efforts to develop relationships with talent agencies and celebrity representatives
• Maintain an organized plan for guest appearances and communicate it effectively to the news staff
• Identify new, diverse and emerging voices as subject matter experts
• Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task within a fast-paced environment
• Solid knowledge of celebrity pop culture, social media, and current entertainment industry trends
• Proficient in news production tools and an understanding of news production techniques
• Must have strong phone and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with celebrities and their representatives (publicists, agents, etc.)
• Overseeing producers who book segments and offering internal training on booking interviews.
• Working closely with the CBS News , Stations & CBS Media Ventures Booking team
• Collaborating with the VP Booking CBS News, Stations & CMV and Sr. Producers
• Working under the direction of the VP/News Directors for KCAL, along with leadership
Requirements & Education:
• Preferred minimum 5 years of experience as a booking producer or similar role.
• Preferred Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Media, Communications, Marketing, or Advertising.
• Ability to collaborate, lead and mentor.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Savviness with pop culture, social media, and current entertainment industry trends.
