ViacomCBS Law Department seeks a Senior Administrator to help clear third-party content (footage, photographs, art, music & memorabilia) for all CBS News programs and provide related administrative support.
Responsibilities
include:
• Clearance: Negotiate rates and rights with third-party licensors for CBS News programming. Respond to time-sensitive requests from producers in fast-paced environment and under breaking news situations. Develop business relationships with third-party vendors and internal business groups. Educate production teams on matters relating to licensing, location agreements, fair use analysis and risk assessments.
• Contracts Management: Draft and review standard license and location agreements, and vet and redline third-party agreements, all in consultation with the CBS News legal team.
• Consultation: Consult with News Review Attorneys, News Standards and Music Operations as necessary. Provide client guidance on standard methodologies.
• Rights Memoranda: Draft and distribute CBS News program rights advisories to divisions throughout the company.
• Supervisor: Help supervise the Rights & Clearances Department Administrators.
• Rights File Maintenance: Maintain paper and electronic files, including agreements, invoices, payments, and correspondence relating to all CBS News programming. Lead rights library and e-library.
• Invoice Management: Organize, process, and track invoices and payments to copyright holders. Follow up on outstanding agreements and invoices by contacting show producers and rights holders.
• Rights Database: Lead all aspects of the receipt and confirm the accuracy of footage & stills reports and music cue sheets from CBS News program production teams.
• Research: Research restrictions related to CBS News programming in an effort to assess a program or segment's availability for rebroadcast, streaming, sale, and distribution. Copyright ownership research.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required.
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience in an in-house legal department or law firm.
Additional Qualifications:
• Strong communication (written and verbal) and organization skills.
• Able to meet tight deadlines and prioritize multiple requests.
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel (basic formulas); knowledge of PowerPoint is helpful.
• Teammate, who will work well with employees in the law department, News, and other parts of CBS, as well as people outside the company.
• Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with a high level of discretion, sensitivity and integrity.
• Proven curiosity about news and current affairs strongly preferred.
