The CBS Evening News is seeking a smart, creative and enthusiastic Producer with strong editorial judgment, field production experience and excellent broadcast script writing skills.
This Producer will pitch and develop hard news and feature stories for day of air and future planning. This Producer will be responsible for story production from concept to broadcast working closely with Senior Producer, Correspondent and production staff.
Candidates must have ability to make quick, quality decisions, crash stories under pressure, and work with the editor to produce a visually compelling story. It is essential this producer can take initiative making calls and is able to effectively coordinate with CBS newsgathering operations, including producers in other regions. Candidates must be flexible with travel requirements and changing schedules as the position will require some planned travel and short notice travel for breaking news.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
• Degree in broadcast journalism or related field is preferred.
• 5 years of editorial experience working in production is preferred.
• Must have solid news judgment and experience chasing breaking news.
• Mastery of the broadcast newsgathering process with strong field experience is preferred.
• Must be an excellent writer with well-developed oral communication skills, especially when working on sensitive stories.
• Must be able to juggle and prioritize multiple stories with different deadlines: short, medium, and long-term.
• Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
• Thrives in high-pressure and time-critical situations.
• Passion for news, journalism, and storytelling is required.
• Must be willing and able to work occasional overnight and/or weekend shifts
