CBS5 (KPIX-TV) and CW44 (KBCW-TV), the CBS News and Stations owned & operated duopoly in the #8 television market in San Francisco, is searching for a dynamic, inclusive and proven leader who has a history of exhibiting excellent news judgement. The next News Director will lead the news products at KPIX-TV CBS 5, KBCW-TV CW44 San Francisco, CBSN Bay Area, KPIX.com (collectively, CBS San Francisco).
As part of leading CBS News San Francisco, the News Director will be instrumental in developing a vision and strategies for the newsroom with a primary goal of driving multi-platform audience growth. The right candidate will work with the President and General Manager to establish best-in-class journalism covering the various communities across the Bay Area! The expectation is that the newsroom is a multi-platform, multi-skilled operation that produces content 24/7.
Qualified applicants will have a successful track record of covering breaking news and severe weather. They will also have experience producing investigative, consumer advocacy and enterprise reporting. Someone with experience recruiting, developing, and retaining journalists is also a must! Being a problem solver and creative doer are important. We also are looking for candidates with a history of managing resources in a major-market newsroom.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates 24/7 strategy and direction for news coverage across platforms.
- Ability to leverage and apply research leading to audience growth.
- Cultivate growth of journalists through constant feedback, performance management and training.
- Works with fellow department heads to improve promotion and monetization of content across platforms.
- Ability to delegate and appoint newsroom staff into appropriate roles optimizing strengths.
- Understanding of how to work with people from all backgrounds.
- Familiar with creating and managing newsroom budgets and anticipating major financial challenges and changes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BA from a four-year college or university is preferred
- 5 years€™ minimum experience in newsroom leadership role, preferably larger market
