CBS News and Stations is seeking a dedicated, creative, and versatile Motion Graphic Designer with solid broadcast graphic design skills to join our Group Creative team, providing services to our CBS-owned and operated station group across 17 markets. The decentralized Group Creative team brings strategy, planning and guidance to our entire group, delivering best-in-class creative and design to be implemented within each local market. Both nimble and innovative, the Group Creative team sets the course towards our organization’s North Starâ€''to make our communities a better place to live.
As a Motion Graphic Designer, you will build dynamic, branded motion graphics that enhance the on-air and digital presentations of our stations’ news, sports, lifestyle shows, and marketing materials. You will conceptualize and design brand imagery from beginning to end, develop streaming assets, create 3D elements for our AR/VR sets, and build motion graphic templates. You will chip in to a wide range of projects, always innovating to evolve and grow our graphic identity across our markets.
Responsibilities:
• Motion Graphics Creation: Develop visually striking 2D and 3D motion graphics, including show opens, promotional graphics, broadcast design packages, and brand imagery for all platforms with an emphasis on modern flat motion design, typography, and infographics.
• Visual Storytelling: Use your creativity, critical thinking, and technical skills to effectively convey complex information through explainer animations to improve storytelling and engage audiences.
• Set Design: Using Cinema 4D and Unreal Engine, build set elements for AR/VR workflows.
• Graphic Design: Craft logos, concepts, key art, marketing materials, digital and streaming assets, and presentations.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Group Creative team, including producers, art directors, and other designers, to understand project goals, provide creative input, and ensure the seamless integration of motion graphics into all creative concepts.
• Brand Cohesion: Maintain visual cohesion and adhere to brand guidelines across all motion graphics, ensuring alignment with the CBS News and Stations brand and the individual identity of each local station.
• Video Editing (plus): Use video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, After Effects) to edit improve footage, integrate motion graphics into video content when needed, and bring brand ideas to life.
• Quality Control: Conduct detailed reviews of graphics to ensure precision, accuracy, visual appeal, and adherence to technical specifications for both linear and digital.
• Project Management: Handle several projects simultaneously, adhering to deadlines and delivering high-quality graphics within the specified timeframe.
• Technical Expertise: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, techniques, and software in motion graphics, AR/VR, and video editing, incorporating new tools and technologies into your workflow.
• Training and Support: Provide training and support to local design teams on effectively using motion graphics, ensuring they can implement and customize graphics as needed.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in graphic design, motion design, film production, or practical experience in a related field.
• Proven experience as a Motion Graphic Designer or in a similar role, preferably within the broadcast or media industry. Minimum 5-10 years experience.
• Strong portfolio showcasing proficiency in creating visually appealing motion graphics, graphic layouts, and video editing (if applicable). Examples of 3D set design a plus.
• Proficiency in design software tools (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema 4D, Unreal Engine, etc.)
• Advanced skills showing precision, nuanced animation, and editing skills with added experience in color grading, template development, and After Effects expressions are highly desirable
