The CBS Evening News Research Department seeks an ambitious broadcast associate to join the editorial production team based in New York City. This position works directly with the department's producers to ensure every aspect of the broadcast is factually accurate and ready for air. The ideal candidate is a team player with exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to meet tight deadlines and stay calm under pressure.
Schedule: This position is based in the New York City Broadcast Center and requires in person work, five days per week. 9:30am â€'' 7:15pm hours.
Key responsibilities:
• Act as an off-air reporter gathering editorial information for producers, correspondents, and writers on tight deadlines. This may include finding relevant stats, studies, or government documents. An understanding of primary sourcing and where to look for information is key.

Requests often are editorial in focus but may also include tracking down characters, running a background check on a potential story subject, purchasing and/or fair-using photos and video footage from licensing agencies or other outside vendors.
• Serve as a last line of defense for all editorial and graphical elements ahead of and during air. This includes fact-checking editorial copy (correspondent and anchor scripts, headlines, teases, etc.) as well as checking all graphical and visual elements for accuracy (this includes in-package and intro graphics, name fonts and story headline banners).
• In addition to the day-of-air responsibilities, the Research department broadcast associate helps with future projects and enterprise reporting. This person is often tasked with a so called “deep dive,†to find editorial later used to craft a story or graphic, around which a correspondent package is written.
Qualifications:
• College degree
• 1-2 years of experience working on a daily news broadcast or as a reporter for a print publication
• Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Ability to work flexible schedule, including holidays when necessary
• Ability to work on tight deadlines and under pressure while maintaining calm
• An interest in newsgathering, a hunger for knowledge and ability to pivot on short notice
