CBS Newspath is seeking a hard-working, creative, and organized Content Associate Producer! This AP will work directly with the Content Producer to help coordinate news gathering for CBS affiliates and clients, and will fill in for them when necessary.
The Content AP should have a strong understanding of using social media for newsgathering, proper procedures for clearing user-generated content, and CBS News Standards. They must be familiar with all major social media platforms and vehicles for engaging audiences on a digital level. This includes - but is not limited to - Facebook, Facebook Live, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and YouTube. Part of this position’s editorial responsibilities is to be able to spot viral and pre-trending content and turn it around for our brand. The candidate should consume as much news as possible, follow a diverse group of newsmakers and platforms, and keep an eye out for hard news, good news, and features that will engage viewers and digital followers.
The Content Associate Producer will be responsible for working with CBS News digital teams to highlight stories available for stations to crosspost and share on their digital platforms. This person will send notes to stations throughout the day to feature digital offerings.They will also answer file requests from stations and clients, and should also look ahead to upcoming events and anniversaries to make sure file video is available for stations to tell those stories.The Content Associate Producer must be a highly organized, self-starter capable of multi-tasking and keeping their focus during breaking news. They should be able to pivot at a moment's notice to make sure assignments meet station deadlines.
CBS Newspath services affiliates and clients that program broadcasts and digital platforms 24/7, so understanding the need to move content accurately and quickly is key to helping affiliates and clients stay competitive on the big stories.
This position includes overnight and weekend responsibilities.
Required Skills:
• Ability to multitask and optimally communicate with the team daily, especially in high-stress, breaking news situations
• Meets deadlines and makes thoughtful and ethical decisions with minimal supervision
• Extensive knowledge of television and digital news gathering, production, and delivery, and how local newsrooms work (both broadcast and digital needs).
• Editing skills required, Avid a plus
• At least two years of newsroom experience
• New York-based, as in-office work is required
• Passion for news, journalism, and social media
• Degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred.
