Hiring Salary Range: $110,400.00 - 150,000.00
ROLE DETAILS
The Managing Editor of CBSNews.com leads our site coverage during prime-time
hours and manages a small team of writers and editors. This role is responsible for
covering breaking news and producing stories for the website across a wide range of
topics, including politics, health, crime and entertainment. We are looking
for someone with strong news judgment who can write and edit clear, accurate,
fact-driven copy and craft compelling headlines on deadline in a fast-paced
environment. You should also have experience making strategic, data-informed
decisions and managing people and projects in a digital newsroom. Scrupulous
attention to detail, a cool head under pressure, and excellent communication skills are
essential.
The hours for this shift are Mondayâ€''Friday, 3-11p ET (12-8p PT). You will be expected
to work some holidays and shift your schedule as news breaks.
Your day-to-day:
â- Oversee CBSNews.com’s coverage during your shift, determining the stories to
prioritize and assign out to the team
â- Spot, monitor and react to breaking news, ensuring speed and accuracy
â- Manage a small team of writers and editors, working with them to shape their
copy
â- Write stories and run live blogs as needed
Qualifications:
â- At least 5 years of experience in a digital newsroom
â- A strong breaking news background and impeccable news judgment
â- You are a skilled writer and editor who can work quickly on competitive stories
â- You have experience managing writers and editors
â- You’re an excellent multitasker, capable of juggling short-term and long-term
projects while reacting to news of day
â- You are SEO-savvy and use analytics to inform content strategy
