CBS Media Ventures | Entertainment Tonight
Senior Writer, ETonline.com
Los Angeles or New York
ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT's website ETonline.com is looking for a Senior Writer. We are looking for a skilled, pop culture-obsessed writer to produce digital content including but not limited to news articles, listicles, exclusive interviews and deep-dives for ETonline.com. You should have your finger on the pulse of what's trending in entertainment news in order to quickly write and pitch relevant, engaging pieces. Experience gathering your own reporting and working with reporters to build stories around their files is also needed. The right candidate for this role will have prior experience conducting interviews over the phone, zoom and in-person events. You must also be a proactive team player with clear communication skills and the drive to be the best in this field.
This role will work a Tuesday-Saturday shift and report into ET's Executive Editor.
Responsibilities:
• Write 5-10 engaging stories daily based on breaking news, exclusive interviews and trending stories surrounding the entertainment industry
• Dig into our ET original shoots to find original exclusive story angles, pitch bookings to advance stories and add relevant questions to our shoots
• Pitch articles and follow-ups according to relevant storylines trending across our site, the web and what will set us apart as newsmakers
• Quickly develop an understanding of what fits into ET's brand while also looking for opportunities to cover untapped markets
• Maintain consistent brand tone and style in copy
• Make fast, accurate choices to ensure your stories are SEO-friendly while also being engaging and polished
• Available for occasional shifted schedules based on events or premieres
Qualifications:
• 4+ years of writing and journalism experience in a digital newsroom
• Must have exceptional news judgment; we are looking for a person who won't settle for second place in the constant race for news-making information and interviews
• The skill level to produce clean copy, familiarity with AP Style and the confidence to self-publish at times
• Someone who can multitask and is able to reprioritize duties based on breaking news
• Experience working and editing in CMS systems. Prior experience with social media (posting to Facebook and Twitter), iNews and Avid, is also a plus
• Experience calling authorities and other agencies when news breaks
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
This is a full time job based in Los Angeles, CA or New York, NY with WFH flexibility.
Please send resume & cover letter to both ET's Managing Editor, Elisa Osegueda and Executive Editor, Rachel Maresca
