Full Time Paid Internship
Division Overview:
The Engagement engineering team designs, develops and maintains both user-focused and externally facing content syndication platforms for CNET.com and other CBSi brands. Our team aims to increase engagement with our sites by building user-centric products like forums, profile pages, commenting systems and customized content alerts. We also develop solutions for syndicating our premium content to external content delivery platforms like Apple News and Facebook Instant Articles.
Role Details:
• We are looking for a talented Software Engineer Intern to join our engineering team. This position is based in Louisville and assumes normal working hours in the Louisville office. You'll be working with a small group of engineers located in SF and Louisville to design, build, and maintain live site features and backend platforms for sites across the CBS Interactive tech portfolio, including CNET.com, ZDNet.com, TechRepublic.com, GameSpot.com, GiantBomb.com and TVGuide.com
• Opportunity to work on personalization initiatives - includes allowing users to manage interests, surfacing personalized content and creating recommendations for other content users might find interesting across brands
• Opportunity to work on API initiatives - building solutions for unifying APIs to power next generation platforms
• You will receive practical hands-on experience with cutting edge technologies
• The position offers ample opportunity to grow as an engineer and work directly with our product teams to build new features and services
Your Day-to-Day:
• As a software engineer intern, you will be given specific development tasks as part of larger business initiatives. Once familiar with the code base, you will be provided additional opportunity to take on and drive a project through the engineering delivery lifecycle from requirements gathering to design, implementation, QA/UAT and LIVE deploy
• You will be using agile-based development methodologies and project management software solutions
• You will work with product managers to understand their requirements and attain verification from them on key deliverables
• The core technical stacks you will work on consists of 1) Java, Spring, GCP Firestore, GCP Pub/Sub, JanusGraph and 2) PHP, Symfony, MySQL, SOLR and Javascript/HTML
• You will also have the opportunity to work with trending technologies such as container solutions (Docker) and Google Cloud Platform
Logistics
• Time commitment: full-time, 40 hours per week.
• This is a paid internship and can also be for university credit if it meets your university's guidelines
Qualifications:
What you bring to the team:
You have –
• Familiarity with related technologies for high traffic web sites (JavaScript/JQuery, Java/PHP, HTML5, AJAX, MySQL, NoSQL databases, Unix/Linux)
• Enthusiasm for both backend and front-end technical development
• Interest in exploring new technologies
You might also have –
• Experience developing in Java
• GCP/AWS solutions experience
• Experience with graph technologies
• Experience working with REST APIs and third-party libraries
• Experience at an online company in digital media or content creation
• Container technology experience
Additional requirements:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Intern must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college, university or bootcamp
