Applicants should be self-starters who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, passionate journalists who are equally interested in national and international news, and collaborators who thrive on organization and the details.
This Associate Producer will help maintain CBSN's news event and coverage calendar. They will coordinate with Managers and show teams on planning future coverage and collaborate with departments across CBSN, CBS Digital, the CBS News broadcast team and other Viacom properties. The AP will also write pitches, research segments and pre-produce special coverage.
Your Day-to-Day:
• Maintain CBSN's news event and coverage calendar.
• Communicate coverage plans across CBSN and CBS Digital
• Work closely with senior staff to produce editorial content;
• Coordinate with assignment desk, booking, show teams and graphics on the planning of day-to-day and major news events
• Recognize and pitch stories with high potential for compelling and comprehensive storytelling;
• Collaborate with digital reporters to develop segments based on their reporting.
• Develop in-show promotion strategies including graphical elements
Key Projects:
• On hand in the newsroom to gather elements during breaking news;
• Commands basic knowledge of current events, politics and pop culture;
• Has basic knowledge of control room;
• Capable of taking direction in high pressure situations;
• Receives assignment and guidance from Manager to research and write questions for anchors for guest segments and exercises editorial judgment in selection of elements for segments;
• Writes copy for anchor and reporter voices for live segments/readers as well as writing for feature and news packages;
• Works with editors to turn around pre-taped segments;
• Pitches and executes special and feature segments;
• Edits VO/VOSOTs at the direction of their Manager;
• Supports special shows and projects as needed;
• Orders graphics and writes banners for assigned stories and segments
• Pulls specific video and soundbites;
• Coordinates video, graphics and soundbites with control room team during segments;
• Communicates with anchors and correspondents on segments;
• Pitches stories;
• May produce sponsored segments;
• Writes headlines and captions for segments to be posted online; and
• Works with Digital Line Producers and editors to clean up and update segments after they air.
This is a position covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the WGA-E.
QUALIFICATIONS:
What you bring to the team:
You have -
• 3 years work experience in broadcast and digital - ideally with some experience producing segments
• Strong communication skills to work successfully with different departments
• Excellent time management with the ability to multitask while not losing sight of all of the details
• Ability to work and write calmly and efficiently in intense deadline, live TV environment
• Command of AP style and broadcast writing.
• Familiarity and working knowledge of digital video production-related techniques and online content management
• Sophisticated knowledge of current events, politics and pop culture.
• Availability to work early morning, nights, weekends, holidays - this is a 24-hour network
