Title: Lead Groundskeeper - White Sox Fields
Status: Full Time
Hiring Pay range- $25-$28/hr. DOE
Groundskeepers are responsible for maintaining playing fields, pitching mounds, batting cages/tunnels and common areas at the facility to ensure a safe and competitive playing surface that exceeds MLB standards. The Lead Groundskeeper will act as a dedicated on-field leader, assisting supervisory staff in delegation of department resources and staff assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Evaluate field surfaces on a routine basis to ensure field safety and playability.
• Implement and prioritize maintenance program focusing on efficiency and effectiveness of resources.
• Keep accurate records; submit daily/weekly reports detailing team assignments, project status updates and other items as requested.
• Assign and oversee daily tasks/ responsibilities for designated staff.
• Assist in calculation, calibration, and application of chemicals/ fertilizer to turf areas.
• Prevent, troubleshoot and recommend solutions to field issues such as turf stress, disease, irrigation problems, etc.
• Train staff in the preparation, maintenance and restoration of assigned field complex.
• Lead assigned crew on specific field projects as needed.
• Operate and monitor operation of field maintenance equipment including use of hand tools.
• Oversee regular preventative maintenance/cleaning of powered department equipment.
• Interact professionally with team personnel and umpires on field set-up, workout/game schedules and field conditions.
• Advise Assistant Superintendent of employee work performance.
• Ensure proper equipment use and adhere to safety standards and precautions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 4 years minimum field maintenance experience at a professional level facility.
• Certification in Turf/Horticulture/Agronomy or equivalent experience.
• Highly skilled in all technical areas of field maintenance, including equipment use, fertilization, chemical application, mowing skills, mound and plate maintenance and infield skin maintenance.
• Knowledge and experience growing warm and cool season grasses.
• Valid Arizona Driver License or demonstration of the ability to immediately obtain one.
• Arizona Pesticide Applicators License or demonstration of the ability to acquire.
• Ability to develop effective, collaborative working relationships with subordinate staff, peers and supervisors.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to use good judgment in the scope of assigned authority; ability to effectively analyze situations and develop course of action.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and willingness to cross-train and assist with other aspects/field designations of grounds maintenance program.
• Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays as required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, push/pull heavy objects, walk/stand for long periods of time and work in extreme heat and harsh conditions.
