Tenure Track Faculty - African Diasporic Theatre, Performance, and Practice
POSITION DETAILS: The Department of Theatre and Dance at Sacramento State seeks a tenure track professor of African Diasporic Theatre, Performance and Practice, whose creative research and scholarship engages with social practice and community engagement. The department's ideal candidate will provide examples of teaching in African American Theory and Criticism, African Diasporic Performance Studies, Global Theatre History and Dramatic Literature.
The successful candidate will join a department that serves a diverse student population, and welcomes applications from racialized persons/persons of color, women, indigenous/Aboriginal People of North America, persons with disabilities, Queer/ feminist performance studies, as well as others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. The Department of Theatre and Dance is committed to ongoing antiracism initiatives and work around racial reckoning.
This position is part of a cluster hire initiative focused on Social Practice and Social Justice in the Arts.
JOB DUTIES:
-Teach a 12-units per semester
-Direct and provide leadership for Sons and Ancestors Theatre Organization
-Engaging in and producing scholarly and creative activities
-Actively participating in service to the Theatre major, Department of Theatre and Dance, College of Arts and Letters, and University
-Advising students and student theatre organizations
-Participate in department/college special events, outreach and student recruitment; assisting with development of curriculum; working as a cooperative, collaborative, and collegial member of faculty; serve the region, state, and nation in areas relevant to teaching, scholarship and creative work
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-PhD, DFA, or MFA in a related field/disciple at time of appointment
-Minimum two years of teaching experience at the University or Community College level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Expertise or specialties in at least two areas: African Diasporic Theatre; World/Global Theatre; Playwriting; Black Women's Theatre and Drama; American Cultural Studies; Teaching Methodologies
-Evidence of scholarly work and research, and a professional body of work
-Demonstrated ability to direct, mentor and produce for faculty and student productions and to teach large classes
