This position is a great opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of BMI, the largest music rights organization in US. BMI is the bridge between songwriters and the businesses and organizations that want to play their music publicly. As a global leader in music management, BMI serves as an advocate for the value of music, representing over 20.6 million musical works created and owned by more than 1.3 million songwriters, composers, and music publishers.
This role will be responsible for securing new affiliates and managing relationships with composers of music in all forms of visual media, including film, TV, and visual streaming. You will also be responsible for leading and developing a team, delegating tasks appropriately, and motivating the team to provide outstanding customer service.
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week. Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Leadership and Management
• Manages the Film/TV/Visual Media team working with composers of music in all forms of visual media, including film, TV, and visual streaming.
• Provides leadership in developing and strengthening inter-team communication and cohesiveness.
• Identifies team members’ developmental opportunities; identifies formal and informal opportunities and resources to support their growth.
• Ability to successfully problem solve.
• Creates and manages the departmental budget.
• Works with, and demonstrates respect for, team members at all levels, and consistently contributes to a positive work environment for the entire team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Directly supervises departmental employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, directing and ensuring reliability of work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Film, TV, Visual Media Music Industry
• Develops and maintains relationships with film, TV and visual streaming industry executives and professionals.
• Develops relationships with music professionals, composers, orchestrators, agents, managers and tastemakers to secure future talent for BMI.
• Recruits new composers to achieve market share growth, maximize affiliate retention and provide excellent customer service.
• Develops and implements programs to attract new affiliates to BMI and nurture their growth through, but not limited to, showcases, seminars, industry conventions, festivals and educational events.
• Maintains current understanding of competitive pressures and how they impact BMI; informs leadership team and makes recommendations as appropriate.
• Monitors trends in film, TV, and visual streaming and new business developments; identifies and analyzes the effects on BMI, its repertoire and its affiliates, and develops strategies to proactively address these changes.
• Negotiates with agents, managers, and composers with regard to their BMI affiliation; manages termination requests as needed.
• Attends music industry events as a BMI representative to maintain BMI’s profile and increase contacts.
• Participates at a high level with industry organizations to build BMI’s profile within the industry.
• Oversees the TV/Film/Visual Media Awards as well as other recognition events.
• Addresses challenges and concerns as they arise and consistently demonstrates ability to successfully problem solve.
• Creates and manages the departmental budget.
• Works with, and demonstrates respect for, team members at all levels, and consistently contributes to a positive work environment for the entire team.
• Regular in-office attendance and ability to attend functions and conduct business off-site.

• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Min. 10 – 15 years’ experience managing teams in the film, TV, visual media, and streaming industries.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and presentation skills.
• Strong relationships and excellent reputation in the film, TV and visual streaming industries.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving ability.
• Demonstrated success in analyzing composers’ abilities for commercial success.
• Ability to establish a constructive relationship with team members at all levels, as well as with those in the film, TV and visual streaming industries.
• Ability to work independently and with good judgment.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Working knowledge of the film and TV production process from conception to hit status.
• Working knowledge of film and TV industry trade and professional organizations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience working with and maintaining database systems and generating reports.
• Extended hours beyond 40 as needed.
• Flexibility for travel.
