POSITION SUMMARY: Assist attorney(s) with a wide array of litigation matters, including infringement cases in federal court and arbitration proceedings, as well as contract and estate matters. This position requires a high degree of accuracy, responsibility, confidentiality and interaction with others.
LOCATION: Nashville, TN office. BMI has transitioned back to working in the office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office three (3) days a week. Decisions regarding future transitions will take place in phases as BMI continues to closely monitor COVID-19 as employee safety is our priority.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
• Provide administrative support for Legal department.
• Research via telephone, Internet, and internal systems.
• Maintain and update electronic file systems.
• Draft correspondence (mail, faxes, email).
• Draft contracts, legal memos, briefs and court pleadings.
• Proofread lengthy legal documents such as court filings, license agreements, estate and probate documents.
• Engage in independent problem-solving to resolve issues and provide follow-up as appropriate.
• Schedule meetings.
• Coordinate attorneys’ calendars, travel arrangements, files, and correspondence. Coordinate attorney participation in industry and bar association activities.
• Process payments received on infringement and collection matters.
• Photocopy, print, scan and index legal documents.
• Respond to telephone inquiries and prioritize phone calls for attorneys.
• Coordinate and manage file/case flow with assigned attorney.
• Assist with special projects as assigned.
• Interact with other departments within BMI.
• Communicate with external individuals including BMI customers, affiliates and heirs, and outside counsel.
• Communicate with state and federal courts in numerous jurisdictions.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Regular attendance, including in person attendance during normal business hours consistent with the Company’s current work schedule.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred
Experience: Minimum two years’ experience in a law firm, corporate legal department or equivalent.
Skills
and Abilities: This may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Proficient in basic Internet functions and research techniques
• Excellent oral and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate effectively to employees, customers, affiliates and heirs, outside counsel, and third-party vendors and partners
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and take initiative
• Familiarity with estate planning is a plus but not required
License(s)/Certifications Required: Notary Public license helpful but not required.
Salary Range:
The specific base salary offered to a successful applicant will be based on individual qualifications, skills, experience and education. The pay range is subject to change at any time based on various internal and external factors. The position may also be eligible for one or more performance-based bonuses.
