Carpentry Supervisor
The New York Production of Blue Man Group is on a search to find someone to join our dynamic, creative, high-energy workplace as Carpentry Supervisor. This position requires extensive knowledge of theatrical carpentry, including outstanding troubleshooting skills with an interest in and talent for innovation, research, and development.
The Carpentry Supervisor manages the New York show carpentry department and its daily operations. They will hire and train Carpentry personnel, manage the department schedules, oversee department maintenance projects and inventory, conduct employee evaluations, and create and manage the Carpentry budget and other administrative needs in conjunction with the Production Stage Manager. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, possess superb verbal and written communication ability, and forge positive and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners. They will be professional, fun, and a pro-active problem solver who is able to inspire staff, foster employee development, and build successful teams, all while multi-tasking within a busy work environment.
Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience in live production within the entertainment industry. This experience should include leading a team to create a positive, energetic, professional work environment. Additionally, this position is responsible for leading work calls including upkeep, repair, maintenance and research regarding scenic, rigging, and props elements. Knowledge of carpentry, metal working, general facilities maintenance, and tool usage are essential. This position is responsible for leading the safe and consistent operation of all scenic elements within the theater. Experience with theatrical automation systems highly preferred.
The Carpentry Supervisor is required to walk; reach forward and over-head with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. They must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 85 pounds. This position requires ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, ropes and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
This is a full-time position with an excellent benefits package including health, vision, dental, paid time off, 401k with company match and more. This position works varying days and hours, which will include nights, weekends, and the holiday season. This role reports to the Production Stage Manager, Blue Man New York.
