Freelance Stage Manager
Job Description:
BlackHouse is looking for an experienced Stage Manager for contract work for an in-person live event in Houston, TX. The program will include four days of leadership meetings, general sessions, business networking events and specialty workshops with approximately 600 attendees.
During the live event, the Stage Manager will work under the direction of the Showcaller to manage all of the show on stage, taking the production cues for getting talent on stage, set changes, placement of props, etc. Stage Manager will also be responsible for greeting talent and briefing them on their rehearsal flow, stage movements, and venue layout.
Candidates must have the ability to decipher scripts/rundowns as they relate to talent cues and be able to take charge and work in a fast-changing breaking news environment. Candidates must be able to multitask in a fast-paced atmosphere, keep calm under pressure, and have excellent communication skills to liaise clearly and effectively with talent, clients and team members.
All potential candidates must be available for the following dates:
Event Dates
Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 7am-5pm
Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 7am-10pm
Scope & Workflow
Pre-event review documents relevant to your role, such as cue sheet, production schedule, stage design, room layout, and talent riders.
Setting up the stage and making sure it is correctly positioned for assigned show
Attend (1) Pre-production Zoom meeting
Work with Showcaller and Show Producer to resolve any issues that may arise during rehearsals or showtime related to stage management
Communicate effectively via clear communication to all appropriate member of the show team.
Maintain a professional standard and demeanor for all working situations (in office, on-site, remote/calls etc…)
Follow all company policies within the handbook as they relate to policy, procedure, and general conduct
Attend post-production meetings as needed and complete post-production reports
Experience & Qualifications
A minimum of 3 years experience as a Stage Manager or Showcaller for live events
Experience using comms and radios
Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
Needs to work well under the pressure of a live event
Should have a strong fundamental understanding of video, lighting, and audio production equipment and capabilities.
Must be able to provide accurate instructions to stage personnel during live events
Ability to keep a professional demeanor in high-stress situations & maintain a proactive approach to overall project management
Multi-tasker with the ability to prioritize multiple requests and projects in fast-paced, deadline driven environment
Familiar with both Mac/ + Power Point
Commitment and follow- through on delegated tasks
Willing to take initiative and resolve problems creatively and resourcefully
