Biscuit is an award winning commercial production company based in Los Angeles and seeks to hire a Payroll Manager. This position seeks someone who has a strong knowledge of payroll processing and labor law. We are looking for someone who works well in a fast-paced dynamic environment. This position requires that the Payroll Manager be personable, organized, detail oriented, with a strong work ethic. The Payroll Manager will interact with production teams routinely and should enjoy providing insight and instruction regarding payroll to production teams. The Payroll manager will report to the Head of Finance and work closely with the Head of Production.
Essential Functions
Manage payroll for all commercial productions and development projects
Review wages computed, audit timekeeping records and correct any errors to ensure accuracy of payroll
Audit new hires on payroll master records for multi-state companies
Facilitate audit requests, prepare special reports and/or work on special projects as assigned by management
Ensure all backup paperwork like kit rentals backup and mileage forms are IRS compliant
Ensure timely and accurate submission of payroll, including benefit deductions and deferral amounts
Act as key financial liaison between production group, finance team and CAPS
Responsible for posting and maintaining production payroll lines in general ledger
Receive and file all completed start packets and deal memos to the appropriate commercial job file
Coordinate with the finance team to ensure all documents are accounted for and properly tracked and filed.
Oversee and track workers compensation procedures, reporting and issue with freelance production teams.
Work with production team to set-up new commercial jobs on CAPS platforms
Qualifications
A minimum of 2-5 years' experience in processing high-volume payroll required. Entertainment payroll industry experience and/or multi-state union payroll is highly preferred.
Significant knowledge of payroll systems, labor laws and practices (specifically in California and New York), knowledge, and administration of sound techniques in all aspects of payroll
An understanding of unions and guilds is a plus, but further training opportunities can be provided on the job.
Experience with entertainment accounting software such as Cast & Crew, Media Services, EP Smart Accounting, CAPS, Hot Budget or Point Zero is a plus
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Excellent oral and written communication ability.
Ability to work towards the team and individual goals.
Knowledge in using an analytical approach to processing payroll.
Excellent time management skills.
Excellent PC skills.
Understanding of and commitment to maintaining current knowledge of industry trends, concepts, products, and practices.
Must have the ability to break payroll and learn advanced concepts when ready.
Self-motivated, must be able to work independently, goal oriented and people oriented.
Schedule must be flexible to accommodate workload and production needs.

Excellent general ledger management and reconciliation skills
