The Director (TV) performs a variety of tasks related to live, pre-recorded, studio and field production, all in support of a 24x7 TV broadcast channel. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, responsibility for all facets of live TV directing in live ''studio'' shows and on-location events within a ''production truck'' environment. This individual is a television director for live sports television network.
Under indirect supervision, the Director (TV) researches, plans, and directs a production crew for specific television programming. This individual also provides technical expertise during pre-production, production and the completion of the live programming. In addition to directing responsibilities, candidate will be looked upon to work with assigned Producers and Operations employees within all broadcasts. Additionally, Director works closely with current management on executing assigned company goals.
This is a part-time position which requires flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Five years' experience working as a director in a live television studio or remote environment including directing all forms of live TV events, utilizing accepted operational techniques to achieve a high quality broadcast
Ten years' overall broadcast operations experience at a local TV station, cable/satellite channel or other industry-related activities
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in related field
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Directs live and taped productions through accurate calling and coordination of video, audio and graphics elements.
• Acts in the capacity of an assistant director in support of the director in live and taped productions through accurate calling and coordination of video, audio and graphics elements.
• Oversees studio productions for quality control.
• Works with producers to execute details of effective programs.
• Provides leadership that encourages excellence and assists in the smooth operation of the organization.
• Acts as liaison between producers, clients and technical crew to facilitate the TV production process.
• Operates all video switching and special effects equipment for TV production primarily in a live studio environment.
• Operates routing equipment which may require patching of video, audio and other signals.
• Sets up and operates different types of television/video cameras and associated equipment, including studio and remote cameras, Jib crane and a multi-camera robotic system.
• Operates lighting control system and make adjustments.
• Operates video control (shading) equipment.
• Performs other tasks, as assigned, including, but not limited to, Assistant Director, Broadcast Technician, Audio Technician, Playback Operator, Content Server System Operator, Transmission/Satellite Control (TOC) Operator and Master Control Operator.
• Additional duties/responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Exceptional creativity in the directing of programming while utilizing the full technical range of the technical equipment for delivery across all platforms to develop engaging programs.
• Exceptional ability to direct technically complicated programming.
• Ability to plan and coordinate all elements of a remote production.
• Ability to work quickly under pressure in an on-air environment.
• Advanced knowledge of the broadcast operational set-up of an on-site production truck, along with the inner workings of a studio set-up.
• Knowledge of professional audio/video and staging techniques, facilities, and equipment.
• Knowledge of professional audio and/or video tape editing and post-production procedures, techniques, and standards.
• Knowledge of the practices, protocols, and conventions of a live TV network.
• Knowledge of television graphic design methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of television production set design principles, lighting and techniques.
• Knowledge of television programming concepts, principles, methodology, and techniques.
• Knowledge in current and emerging newscast technologies
• Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively, professionally, and courteously with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Hands-on and/or working knowledge of systems/equipment used in functions identified above, including analog/digital video/High Definition video/audio signals and monitoring equipment
• Strong leadership skills
• Ability to work varied schedules and to work overtime and/or holidays
• Ability to travel around the country for on-site events.
