About the Role: We are looking for an experienced Head Script Writer with a strong journalism background to lead the research and scriptwriting process for Murder Mystery & Makeup, Bailey Sarian's highly successful true crime YouTube series and podcast. This role requires a meticulous and compelling storyteller who can craft engaging, well-researched, and ethically responsible narratives that align with Bailey's signature voice and style.

Credibility is key; we need someone who prioritizes accuracy, sources information responsibly, and ensures every script is backed by credible, fact-checked research. The ideal candidate must have strong journalistic integrity, a deep understanding of the true crime genre, and the ability to translate complex cases into compelling yet ethical storytelling.

We're looking for a strong narrative writer with a journalistic background-someone who can craft compelling, prosaic content that informs, engages, and resonates.

This is a full-time, in-person role based in Los Angeles, CA, with the potential for remote work days as approved.

Responsibilities:

Lead the scriptwriting process for Murder Mystery & Makeup, ensuring accuracy, credibility, and ethical storytelling in every episode.
Develop compelling, causational true crime stories that align with Bailey Sarian's unique storytelling style.
Verify all sources and cross-check facts to maintain high credibility and journalistic integrity.
Write, revise, and polish scripts that are both informative and conversational, balancing factual accuracy with engaging and accessible delivery.
Ensure scripts adhere to ethical true crime storytelling principles, avoiding sensationalism while maintaining audience intrigue.
Work closely with the production team in person to fine-tune scripts for seamless video and podcast integration.
Stay updated on true crime trends and cases in the zeitgeist, ensuring fresh and relevant content.
Manage deadlines and deliver high-quality scripts consistently.
Incorporate and keep front of mind legal best practices when it comes to presentation of content.

Qualifications:

Strong journalism experience is essential.
Proven experience in scriptwriting for true crime content.
Exceptional storytelling ability, with a keen sense of character development/arcs, pacing, tension, and audience engagement.
Deep understanding of true crime ethics and responsible reporting standards.
Experience adapting writing for video and podcast formats.
Ability to write in Bailey Sarian's distinct tone and voice.
Highly detail-oriented, ensuring all information is accurate and verified before publication.
Ability to work in person in Los Angeles, with potential for remote work days as approved.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects at once.
Experience writing for a YouTube-first brand or personality-driven content.
Previous work in true crime journalism, research, or production.
Bonus points if the candidate has prose and/or speech writing experience.
Familiarity with Bailey Sarian's content and audience.
