Counsel / Senior Counsel, Awesomeness and Nickelodeon Business and Legal Affairs
Overview and Responsibilities
Our Counsel/Senior Counsel opening (level will depend on experience), Business & Legal Affairs for Viacom Kids & Family, presents an opportunity to work on a wide range of business and legal affairs matters for Awesomeness Studios, a leading entertainment brand for Gen Z and a producer of hit television shows and films for various high-profile platforms (including the hit film To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before for Netflix and the critically acclaimed Pen15 for Hulu), and Nickelodeon, a beloved and iconic multi-platform kids brand (SpongeBob Square Pants, The Casagrandes, All That, Young Dylan and Blue Clues and You)!
In this position, you will focus on all aspects of studio development and production of both scripted and unscripted original series for Nickelodeon and other platforms: structuring, negotiating and drafting a high volume of rights agreements, producer deals, talent agreements, distribution and other agreements, and counseling and working closely with colleagues in Production, Talent, Programming and Development, and Licensing and Distribution.
You will advise and counsel a broad range of client groups on a variety of complex business and legal matters, including key involvement in the development and implementation of policies, practices and critical initiatives across teams.
Basic Qualifications
J.D., member of the California Bar and a minimum of 3 years experience at a network, studio, entertainment law firm or production company, with the following proficiencies:
• Demonstrated drafting and negotiation skills
• Entertainment, contracts and intellectual property law, including copyright and trademark, rights of publicity, and employment law issues
• Television production and development
• Talent deal-making
• Ability to work collaboratively and exercise sound and ethical judgment, with a focus on achieving client goals
• Television and new media industry agreements
• Familiarity with guild and union regulations (SAG-AFTRA, WGA, DGA and I.A.T.S.E)
Additional Qualifications
• Qualified candidate should be a self-starter, with excellent attention to detail, who possess a strong ability to conduct legal research, analysis and reasoning, as well as excellent drafting, negotiation, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task to cover a high volume of deals and work autonomously is an absolute requirement.
• Passion for entertainment is a definite plus!
