Purpose:
The Full Stack Developer will be an integral part of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Strategy & Analytics staff, leading and collaborating on the development of both back and front-end internal software stacks. This position will work on projects that enhance the flow of data and information from data ingestion to output and communication, and everything in between. Projects will directly impact the decision-making process of the front office.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work collaboratively with the Basketball Strategy & Analytics staff to create, design, and develop cloud-based frontend and backend software solutions.
• Design and implement frontend tools with appealing visual design and an emphasis on user-friendly functionality.
• Create processes to enable the Basketball Strategy & Analytics staff to easily launch and maintain frontend applications.
• Lead development, enhancement, and maintenance of software tools to enhance flow of information across basketball operations.
• Redevelop data ingestion pipelines from new and existing data feeds.
• Bring creative, out of the box thinking to full technology stack and backend and frontend design concepts.
• Meet regularly with the Basketball Strategy & Analytics staff via conference calls/video calls to ideate, discuss, debate, and present projects and updates.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Proven experience as a Full Stack Engineer, Software Engineer, or a similar role.
• Professional experience and experience gained through coursework or personal projects qualify.
• Strong programming ability across multiple languages and libraries (e.g. JavaScript , Python, HTML/ CSS).
• Experience using at least one state-of-the-art web infrastructure framework (e.g. React, Vue, Angular).
• Experience building and designing websites.
• Attention to detail with exemplified ability to check work.
• Capable of maintaining productivity in both independent and team environments.
• Experience maintaining well-organized and structured code repositories for reproducibility.
• Willingness and ability to learn necessary skills for full-stack development.
• Willing and able to provide after-hours and weekend support during the NBA season (September to June).
• Positive and collaborative communicator with a willingness to ask questions and challenge the status quo.
• Willing and able to work remotely, full-time.
Additional Skills and Experience:
• Knowledge of backend development tools/languages (e.g. Apache, PHP, SQL).
• If candidates only have preliminary experience with back-end development, they should exhibit an interest and willingness to learn these skills/tools.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and distributed environments.
• Experience working with databases and analytics systems.
• Experience building fast, interactive visualizations using large datasets.
• Familiarity with the statistical programming language, R, is a plus.
• Passion for basketball and sports is a plus.
Education:
• B.S. or M.S. in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field
