Affiliate Public Relations (PR) Coordinator

The Atlanta Hawks organization is looking for a motivated and high-energy individual to join their team as Communications Coordinator for both Hawks major growth properties: the College Park Skyhawks of the NBA G League and Hawks Talon GC of the NBA's 2K League.
The College Park Skyhawks are the key element in assisting the development of future NBA talent for the Hawks and building fans on the rapidly-growing south side of Atlanta. The Hawks Talon GC is charged with next-generation fan development through NBA 2K gameplay and culture.
The Communications Coordinator for Hawks Affiliate Teams will report to the VP of G League and 2K Operations while receiving and providing support to both the Hawks Basketball and Brand Communications teams. The COORDINATOR will be responsible for the media operations of both franchises (serving as primary contact onsite at games/events, drafting press releases, game notes, building relationships within the 2K and G League world as well as the Atlanta market and pitching stories for placement).
The ideal candidate must have a strong working knowledge of both the NBA G League and NBA 2K, be an eager student, creative thinker, and have excellent communications and networking skills. The ability to seamlessly work with multiple groups, handle deadlines and make quick, thoughtful decisions are critical skills necessary to succeed in this role.
The coordinator will split time between Atlanta and College Park and will be required to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Pitch and place stories related to Hawks Talon GC and the College Park Skyhawks, including basketball and all business/brand initiatives
• Establish relationships with G League and esports media while serving as a teacher to traditional media on the Hawks Talon GC brand and the NBA 2K League
• Serve as on-site media contact for all home Skyhawks and Talon games
• Write game previews and recaps during each week of the NBA 2K League season
• Write and distribute game recaps for all Skyhawks home games
• Coordinate interviews with the front office, coaching staff and players while looking for other unique story-telling opportunities and work with business staff to find stories worth promoting (i.e. sponsorship announcements, community events)
• Serve as team point of contact for events ranging from the NBA 2K League draft, community events, media day, home games and shootarounds, practices during G League season, etc.
• Lead charge of producing media guide for Skyhawks and Talon
• Build and maintain relationships with media members to drive brand messaging and identify media exposure opportunities
• Oversee the training and scheduling of part-time staff responsible for in-game stat keeping and media relations for Skyhawks games
Education & Experience
• College degree required;
• 1-4 years of experience working within similar role;
• Previous PR experience with sports brands/teams preferred.
• Strong writing skills and AP style proficiency
• Experience pitching stories of all types to a wide selection of media outlets, and working with reporters/editors/producers
• Media contacts and ability to identify new media outlets regularly
• Knowledge of influencer landscape and ability to identify, connect, and leverage relationships
• Knowledge of key players in the sports and entertainment industry, and how industry news directly or indirectly affects the business
• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, a plus, but not required
Travel Requirements
Infrequent Traveler (10 -20% travel): The candidate may be required to travel for games/events.
