Position Overview: The Staff Accountant will be responsible for monitoring the outflow of capital for the company and assisting with data analysis. This person's primary mission will be to process Accounts Payable, maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with budget and close processes, and conducting internal audits. The Staff Accountant will ultimately support the Director of Finance in managing all accounting functions and support internal control initiatives.
Responsibilities:
• Receives and verifies expense reports; reconciles expense and other financial reports with account balances and other office records.
• Assist with data collection and analysis for individual departments and executive leadership
• Facilitates payment of vendors, which may include verification of federal ID numbers, reviewing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies.
• Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, and reconciles accounts.
• Ensures outstanding obligations are credited upon payment, identifies discount opportunities, and issues purchase order amendments or stop-payment orders as needed.
• Records entry of, verifies documentation for, and distributes petty cash and per diem.
• Calculates and reports sales tax
• Maintains the general ledger
• Assist in the accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close
• Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
• Files tax and sales tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
• Prepare and enter journal entries, accruals/reclasses, and variance analysis
• Ensure that all deadlines are met in accordance with closing dates set by management
• Work directly with operational personnel to gain an understanding of the processes behind the assigned accounts
• Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedules
• Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
Required Skills/Abilities:
• QuickBooks Online and/or be able to learn other accounting software systems.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
• Ability to correctly prepare sales tax reports.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
• Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide verification of vaccination prior to start date
• This is not a remote position
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field, preferred
• At least three years of related experience required
