Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for the programming of concerts for Ashkenaz.
Ashkenaz is a historic venue based in Berkeley, CA. Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Booking
Acquire talent year-round for local traditional and global music venue (approximately 200 shows per year)
Evaluate requests to perform at Ashkenaz and respond to artists and agents in a timely way
Work with promoters and agents to secure ''presents'' shows of all kinds.
Build offers and negotiate deal terms with artist/event representation.
Form new connections with agents and promoters to maintain bookings.
Develop and maintain quality relationships with artists, artist representation, local event curators, and members of the local business and municipal communities.
Work with Executive Director to create a plan for upcoming seasons of shows.
Assist in providing necessary information for the P&L/budget and enters data as needed.
Maintain effective communication with all departments (production, marketing, box office, etc.) on logistics of confirmed shows.
Contact artist representation for concert availability.
Utilize company systems for creation, distribution, maintenance, and tracking of events information.
Be present during the event and settle events as necessary.
Communicate budget allocations, creative direction, and demographics with marketing and venue staff.
Keep Event Management Software (EMS) up to date as the calendar develops. Manage and maintain venue calendars.
Administration
Oversee all event administrative duties
Invoicing and payments
Maintain information and database with booking calendar updates, information updates, and reports
Contracting with artists
Work with Production Manager on advancing shows
Report on booking issues
Meet regularly with the Executive Director and other staff members and volunteers involved in productions
Other duties as assigned by supervisor including participation in special projects
Act as liaison with other internal departments
Qualifications, Education and Experience
3+ years of live music production experience required, with non-profit experience a plus
Bachelor's degree, preferred, with courses in ethnomusicology
Highly skilled at projecting and managing budgets
Experience with music/concert programming
Passion and willingness to learn about traditional music, world music and other arts practices
Knowledge and proficiency with Google Suite applications
Vigilant on email and follow-up
Independent, problem-solving abilities, detail-oriented, highly organized, with strong communication skills
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities, prioritize work, solve problems, and operate under time and work volume pressure
Effective interpersonal skills and flexibility a must
Thoughtful communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Salary Range: $27-30/hr + health benefits
