Job Overview:
This position provides crucial substantive support in connection with BALA's (Business & Legal Affairs) enforcement and licensing activities on behalf of the Licensing group, with a particular focus on broadcast media licensees. Primary responsibilities include drafting and tracking communications with delinquent licensees; developing settlement strategies for small and medium dollar value delinquencies; drafting settlement agreements from templated exemplars; tracking compliance with settlement and other payment plans and working quickly to identify and resolve any missed payments; and negotiating small and medium dollar value settlements. This position also will provide substantive support in connection with ASCAP's General Licensing copyright infringement program, with possible involvement in the following areas: (i) identification of litigation targets; (ii) arranging for and assigning investigations of establishments selected for investigation; (iii) review of investigations for adherence to ASCAP protocol; (iii) coordinating and sending notices of infringement in advance of litigation; (iv) clearing copyrighted works for use in litigation; (v) communicating with the Copyright Office and music publishers; and (vi) drafting complaints and other case opening documents.
Areas of Responsibility/ Accountability:
• Provide support in connection with BALA's enforcement and licensing work on behalf of the Broadcast Licensing Group, as described above. (85%)
• Provide support in connection with General Licensing copyright infringement litigations, as described above. (15%)
Qualifications
and Requirements:
• Three (3) years of experience working as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant
• Proven written and oral communication/ advisement skills
• Demonstrated experience handling time-sensitive matters
• Detail oriented and highly organized
• Self-motivated and able to handle projects independently from start-to-finish
• Interest in working in a fast-paced, rewarding position with a first-in-class legal team
• Proficiency with Word and Excel
• Background in Music, Publishing and/or Performance Rights a plus
• Experience working with creative individuals a plus
• Proficiency in the use of computerized databases (especially Sales Force) a plus
• Bachelor's degree required

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000 and will be determined on an individualized basis depending on several factors that are unique to each candidate including geographic location (due to differences in the cost of labor), skills, education and prior relevant experience.
