Job overview:
As an Auditor for the Licensing department, you will be responsible for scheduling and conducting audits of ASCAP licensees to ensure compliance with terms of licensing agreements and that licensees have reported information completely and accurately. You will conduct audits of licensees across a broad spectrum of businesses which may include radio stations, hotels, theme parks, cable companies and streaming services.
These audits produce additional revenue for distribution to ASCAP members - meaning you will be playing an extremely important role in ensuring that songwriters are compensated for their work and have the ability to thrive alongside the businesses that use their music every day. The role reports to the Senior Director, License Auditing in the Licensing department. This is a hybrid position with a 3 day per week in- office requirement based out of the ASCAP New York Office.
Areas of Responsibility & Accountability:
• Develop a deep understanding of ASCAP’s various licensing agreements.
• Schedule and conduct audits of licensees in accordance with departmental policies and guidelines.
• Perform pre-audit tasks and contact licensees to request records required for audits.
• Prepare audit work papers, adjustments and reports ensuring findings, and conclusions are documented clearly, thoroughly, and in a timely manner.
• Identify root causes of audit findings (e.g., misclassification, calculation errors, missing data).
• Collaborate with internal ASCAP teams (e.g., Legal, Sales, Finance) to explain audit findings and resolve issues as necessary.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• 3 years of experience in a public accounting firm or audit function within a global Financial Services firm or Media & Entertainment company
• Ability to interpret and analyze data, trace calculations to source documentation, and maintain accuracy.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with others in a professional manner.
• Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience auditing contracts or working with licensing agreements (music, publishing, technology licensing, IP licensing, or similar).
• Proven ability to multitask, assess and shift priorities around as needed.
• Proficiency with Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables, lookups) and comfortable learning internal systems/tools.
• Commitment to attention to detail, organized work product, meeting deadlines.
• Ability and flexibility for occasional travel, as needed.
Occasional travel for in-person meetings may be required.
Salary/Benefits
$70,000 - $80,000 /year USD
Base salary range determined on an individualized basis.
