Job Description
Job Overview:
The Director, Tax will be an integral part of ASCAP's Accounting & Finance team, advising on matters related to the creation and implementation of tax strategies and organization and maintenance of complicated tax issues in the context of ASCAP's business.
Responsibilities
• Calculation of tax liabilities, tax form preparation, and external filing/reporting
• Tax research, analysis, and interpretation for purposes of compliance, tax planning, and optimization
• Tax-specific transaction recording and records maintenance – for example, tax journals, capital expenditure details required for tax calculations, and tax depreciation schedules
• As needed, consultation with external tax professionals and agencies on tax matters, such as auditors and tax attorneys
• Prepare, support, and review all tax filings, elections, and forms in collaboration with outside tax preparers
• Monitor new tax laws and determine impact to the business, and advise on any necessary actions ASCAP will need to take
• Prepare and review all tax-related workpapers and journal entries
• Assist in Federal and State tax audits
• Determine tax savings and recommend strategies to improve profits
• Regularly communicate with ASCAP leadership and continually improve tax related processes and operational plans
Qualifications
& Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. Advanced degree (e.g. Master's) in a related field preferred
• 7 years of relevant experience; experience working in the tax department of a large company preferred
• High level of attention to detail, accuracy and ability to work under time constraints
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex tax concepts to a non-expert audience
• Strong understanding and knowledge of US tax laws, rule and regulations
• Knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting concepts
• Executive presence and the ability to effectively communicate and present to senior leadership
• Knowledge of Media, AdTech or Music Industry helpful; not required
