DESCRIPTION:
seeks a senior market reporter. Reporting to the Executive Digital Editor, this reporter will be responsible for an average of 1-2 online articles per day, as well as several longer features per month.
The ideal applicant will be able to juggle multiple aspects of the art market beat, ranging from profiles of rising art dealers, Q&As with auction house specialists and important collectors, to analytical features examining artists’ markets and categories from Old Masters to Ultra-Contemporary. This reporter will be expected to contribute to our weekly scoops-driven newsletter on the art market, On Balance, as well as to our auctions and fairs coverage.
To do well in this role, the reporter should know how to develop sources and be driven by a desire to break high-impact news and engaging exclusives. This person should understand and be able to think creatively about how the art market works, how it is changing, and how that affects the future of visual culture and creative production.
This role would be based in our New York office.
Requirements:
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in journalism, ideally covering the art market.
• Knowledge of art, the art world, the art market, and the auction houses.
• An ability to work quickly and accurately at digital speed; an ability to work collaboratively.
• A clear, engaging, jargon-free writing style.
• Knowledge of SEO best practices.
• Experience using content management systems and social media platforms.
Responsibilities:
• Pitch, report, and write stories on the art market, balancing news with original features reporting and longer enterprise stories.
• Maintain your editorial slate and lineup with realistic deadlines and publish dates.
• Collaborate with other staff on reporting projects that further our overall coverage.
• Collaborate with video and social media editors as needed to develop ways of telling stories on other platforms.
