The Art Directors Guild, Local 800, has a position available for a Directors of Communications. This hands-on position is responsible for administering internal and external communications for the Guild.
Duties will include the management and distribution of all electronic mass emails, including, but not limited to, proofing, editing, layout work, etc.. Create and oversee weekly email publication, including, but not limited to, collecting content, seeking story submissions, layout, proofing, editing, etc.. Coordinate the proofing of the bimonthly magazine publication, ensuring timely response by proofers and submission of reports to the editor. Create, compile, distribute and track reports, brochures, invitations, and other communications to support member engagement. Monitor the Guild's website, and assist in making updates, corrections, and changes and work with the web administrators on any website enhancements. Interface with the Political Coordinator on the distribution of campaign information, maintenance of email distribution lists. Manage ADG's social media sites, including writing, editing, publishing, and promoting content. Monitoring responses to posts and staying current on industry trends for opportunities to attract new readers and/or create stronger, more engaging content. Work with the education department on the promotion of training opportunities, etc. Make recommendations on systems and software that support ADG communications needs.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
The ADG is a Labor organization representing designers. Thus, a keen eye for graphic layout and design is a must. Experience or advanced familiarity with labor unions and the entertainment industry. Ability to learn and understand the Guild's target audience and industry needs. Must have a minimum of a two-year proven track record in marketing and communications. Proficiency with computers, especially content management software, social media platforms, MS Office-Word, Excel and Publisher, SEO keywords, and a basic understanding of HTML and SEO. Must have experience using Adobe products, including Photoshop and Illustrator. Must have experience using Constant Contact. Familiarity with RSVPify helpful. Demonstrable experience in the creation of electronic and print content, including graphics and layout. Experience with Content Management Software such as WordPress, Drupal, Joomla!, Magento, Tumblr, and/or Squarespace. Ability to use analytics tools, such as Google Analytics and Clicky. Demonstrated copy-editing skills. Must be creative and demonstrate adaptability. Some experience with photography. Ability to attend various industry events and report back. To portray a positive image, both internally and externally, by displaying high standards of service, integrity, punctuality, politeness, and professionalism. Ability to work unsupervised, provide a high level of initiative and work productively as a member of a team.
