Position Information:
• Start Date: June 8 – August 28, 2026
• Hours: 40 hours per week (9:00 – 5:00pm central)
• Location: St. Paul, MN (Hybrid)

Intern, Legal Technology:
As a Legal Technology Intern, you’ll help our team build an AI-powered, intuitively organized document system that transforms how legal documents are managed. This hands-on role combines elements of law, information science, and AI coding—giving you the chance to work on real projects, explore innovative solutions, and gain contemporary skills. If successful, you will have an enterprise-grade reference project to add to your portfolio that will set you apart in a rapidly evolving field
Key Learning Goals:
Through immersive learning and real-world projects, our goal is for you to:
• Learn how to engage with internal clients on an in-house legal team
• How to build ai-powered tools to solve a common information science problem (how to name and save documents at scale)
Together, these goals are designed to help you produce a meaningful, resume-worthy project with real-world application.
Responsibilities:
In this hands-on role, you will build a bot/script that will:
• Access and extract documents from email archives and existing file repositories
• Review document contents using AI/ML to identify key information (party names, document type, execution dates, subject matter)
• Automatically rename files according to a standardized naming convention
• File documents into our SharePoint site following a defined folder structure
• Generate logs/reports of what was processed and flag documents that need manual review
Additionally, you will also assist in defining a process (or helping to build a tool) for saving current documents at scale.
Programming:
• Participate in a robust on-boarding experience
• Professional development: on-the-job training, workforce readiness training, formal performance review feedback sessions, etc.
• Participate in brown bag sessions to gain broader perspective of the organization
• Spend time with a compelling group of professionals on the legal team
Required Qualifications
• Enrolled undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduates (within the past 18 months)
• Must be able to work 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00pm) for the duration of this internship
• Must be able work in the office (St. Paul, MN) at least 2 days per week
• Experience with or knowledge of best practices for document saving at scale
• Programming proficiency: Strong Python skills (or similar language) with experience in file manipulation and API integration
• Self-directed: Ability to work independently, research solutions, troubleshoot issues, and make technical decisions with minimal supervision
• AI/API experience: Prior experience using AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or similar) for text extraction or document processing
• Cloud platform knowledge: Experience with Microsoft Graph API or SharePoint integration (or demonstrated ability to learn quickly)
• Document handling: Familiarity with libraries for parsing PDFs, Word documents, and email formats
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with optical character recognition (OCR) for scanned documents
• Prior internship or project involving legal documents or regulated industries
• Understanding of data privacy and confidentiality best practices
• Experience with error handling, logging, and building robust batch-processing scripts
