This is a Part Time Paid Internship
Position Information:
• Start Date: January 8, 2024 – June 7, 2024
• Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00pm with some nights/weekends)
• Location: St. Paul, MN
• Compensation: $18.00/hour
Intern, Programming – The Current:
The Current brings listeners the best authentic new music alongside the music that inspired it, from local to legendary, indie to influential, new to nostalgic. As the Programming Intern at The Current, you will be helping to advance multiple programming projects that serve our company goals.
• Maximize the operation of our music database to help track programming diversity.
• Compile data to support impact statements for internal and external use.
• Work under the supervision of the programming team to support local music initiatives that advance our commitment to serving the artists across our region.
• Participate in special projects for The Current's portfolio of programs and content channels including Carbon Sound, local music initiatives, and Radio Heartland.
Key Learning Goals:
The goal of this internship is to provide immersive learning and real-world experience through impactful projects. Our goal for you is to:
• Learn the fundamentals of radio programming and gain exposure to tools and systems used across the public media industry.
• Shadow teams across departments at MPR to gain knowledge of strategic planning and project management.
• Train on the basics of content strategy and implementation.
Responsibilities:
In this hands-on role, you will dedicate your time to the following area:
• Participate in a dynamic team environment alongside The Current's programming team to learn and support special projects that advance the station's goals.
• Research and support creating systems to help improve content planning.
• Pitch concepts to a team of content creators to learn and test new ways of serving music fans.

Programming:
• Participate in robust on-boarding experience.
• Professional development: on-the-job training, workforce readiness training, formal performance review feedback sessions, etc.
• Participate in brown bag sessions to gain broader perspective of the organization.
Required Qualifications:
• Enrolled Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in an undergraduate or Master’s program OR have earned a degree within the last 12 months.
• Must be able to work 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00pm with occasional nights/weekends) for the duration of this internship.
• Awareness of basic project management tools and Microsoft applications is required.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications:
• College or community radio experience.
