Position Information:
• Start Date: January 6 – June 6, 2025
• Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00pm)
• Location: Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY; or Washington DC (Hybrid working)
• Compensation: $20.00/hour
Intern, On Demand – Marketplace Podcasts:
Eager to gain hands-on podcast experience at one of the top business news shows on public radio? The Marketplace Podcast team is looking for an intern to collaborate on diverse shows from daily news to narrative climate series - and everything between.
This internship is a great opportunity for individuals who want to pursue a career in journalism and podcasting. You will work closely with small production teams to get experience in all aspects of podcast creation and production. Marketplace's diverse portfolio includes everything from a chatty daily news show to award-winning long-form narrative journalism on climate solutions and public policy, to a lifestyle show for millennials about money to financial literacy shows for kids and young people. You will work on multi-channel content and have the opportunity to innovate new seasons by collaborating on multiple shows.
Key Learning Goals:
Our Podcast teams are small and collaborative. You will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills -- from technical skills, like recording and editing audio, to soft skills like communication, critical thinking, and teamwork. Through this immersive learning experience, you will:
• Improve technical skills (editing audio, recording audio, transcription programs, etc.)
• Improve soft skills (communication, critical thinking, leadership, host management)
• Hone news judgement and learn the Marketplace “voice”
• Become proficient in writing in the voice of the show in scripts, web copy, and podcast showpages
• Be proficient in all aspects of production by the end of the internship
Responsibilities:
In this hands-on role, you will assist the production team in the following ways:
• Research and pitch stories
• Collect and gather tape from listeners
• Prep hosts and learn how to work with hosts
• Learn how to capture the voice of the show by writing scripts and showpages
• Find sources and conduct pre-interviews
• Book Guests
• Prep interviews
• Participate in a weekly team meeting
• Prepare daily transcriptions to make the show accessible to non-hearing audience
• Other tasks to help aid in the production of episodes and seasons

Programming:
• Participate in robust on-boarding experience
• Professional development: on-the-job training, workforce readiness training, formal performance review feedback sessions, etc.

Required Qualifications
• Graduating senior in an undergraduate program, enrolled in a graduate program, or have earned a degree within the last 12 months
• Must be able to work 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, roughly 9:00 – 5:00pm) for the duration of this internship
• Demonstrate interest/experience in a news organization
• Familiar with journalism and/or podcasting through classes or internships
• Familiarity with journalism ethics
Preferred Qualifications
• Another applicable internship experience (in a public radio newsroom, on a daily news podcast, etc.)
• Familiarity editing audio (we will train on specific program if needed)
