Are you driven by numbers, details, and analysis? Do you want to launch your career in non-profit finance, but lack the hands-on experience required to land your dream job? This 6-month Finance Internship provides exposure to the inner workings of finance and accounting, equipping you with the technical chops and supporting skills to grow in your career.
This internship supports the Finance team to strengthen the organization's financial integrity, business processes, and system of internal controls by working on financial projects and providing accounting support, insight, and recommendations.
Key Learning Goals:
Through immersive learning and real-world projects, you will:
• Expand Accounting Fundamentals - Learn the monthly and annual accounting cycle by completing account reconciliations and supporting schedules, accounting entries, and financial reports.
• Conduct Internal Audit - learn how the internal audit process supports the organization's internal controls by planning and conducting an internal audit(s) of key policies, procedures, and areas of compliance.
• Develop Critical Skills - Being a finance whiz takes more than crunching numbers. Goals will be developed to help you sharpen the soft skills crucial for success like project management, collaboration, and business communications.
• Build an Impressive Professional Network - With hands-on training and mentorship from your team, you'll develop connections that will support you grow in your career.

Responsibilities:
Project work will draw upon technical concepts learned in school and provide opportunities to develop other business skills such as communication, problem-solving, and project management. Projects are intended to provide a variety of finance experiences and collaborate with other business units. Essential functions include:
• Accounting Support - Supporting the organization's financial integrity by completing assigned account reconciliations and project-based financial reporting.
• Internal Audit - Plan, perform, and write internal audit reports. Document procedures performed to assess whether selected activities are appropriate and processed per written policies and procedures. Identify questions regarding transactions that do not meet the testing criteria. Collaborate with business units to address audit questions effectively and respectfully. Create written reports documenting, procedures, findings, and recommendations.
• Business Operations Review - Evaluate existing policies, procedures, user permissions, and workflows. Make recommendations to improve clarity, efficiency, and internal controls.
• Other Financial Projects - Other functions may include financial reporting and planning, supporting information system initiatives, annual audit preparation, and other financial review.

Required Qualifications:
• Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors in an undergraduate or Master’s program OR have earned a degree within the last 12 months in accounting or finance.
• Must be able to work 40 hours per week (Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00pm) for the duration of this internship.
• Interest in pursuing a career in accounting / finance or admission into a graduate business program.
• Completed introductory course work in finance or accounting (e.g., financial accounting, audit, information systems).
• Familiar with and willing to learn fundamental accounting, internal control, and auditing concepts.
• Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities.
• Effective problem solver requires strong coordination and communication skills.
• Objective and curious.
• Interest in financial systems and creating efficiency.
• Proficient Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous finance or accounting internship or experience.
