• Hours: 40 hours per week
• Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)
• Pay: $20/hour - $23/hour (salary will be based on individual's education and/or relevant experience)

We're looking for a journalism fellow who is innately curious about raising the economic intelligence of our audience; driven to find new and compelling ways to tell stories both on the radio and on digital platforms; organized and detail-oriented; willing to experiment; and able to pitch ideas and thrive in a quick paced, dynamic environment.
The fellowship is designed for an early- to mid-career individual who has two or more years of experience in journalism. You will have full access to the Marketplace show, along with its tools and resources, to help develop your journalism across different formats, including produced and reported pieces.
A supervisor will be assigned to manage your experience, and you will be assigned a mentor within the team to meet with each week to talk about assignments and responsibilities along with support for daily work. You will be embedded in the Marketplace team with the opportunity to learn from the entire Marketplace staff.
Key Learning Goals:
The goal of this fellowship is to provide immersive learning and real-world experience through impactful work. By the end of your fellowship, you will be able to:
• Prep, source, and produce host interviews.
• Conduct pre-interview subjects, prepping, sourcing, and producing first person narrative essays.
• Learn how to pitch interviews from economic data released from government and private entities.
• Learn how to read and analyze data reports to find stories and sources.
• Learn how to select music and score pieces with different music genres.
• Observe reporters and editors on daily on-air spots, learning how those spots are assigned and edited.
• Perform quick turn interviews for spots and cut and copies, identifying sources, asking questions, and pulling the tape to create an on-air package.
• Learn how to voice on-air pieces, including training on voicing on-air material.
• Experience different types of supervised edits, including edits for interviews, self-narrated essays, news spots, and features.
• Shadow field producers on field pitches and prep and experiencing a field feature from pitch to on-air completion.
• Contribute to a team environment at a multiplatform shop.
• Craft promotional material from interviews and reporter features for stations.
Responsibilities:
In this fast-paced position, you will:
• Perform a variety of production, research, and editorial tasks, including cutting tape, pre-interviewing sources, pitching ideas, and writing on-air and online copy.
• Write show promos, daily station updates, and other materials.
• Contribute ideas for stories and other editorial material.
• Conduct pre-interviews for on-air guests.
• Develop the skill set to produce same day elements in response to changing news.
• Produce interviews for the show.
• Learn to create content for different platforms, including on-air and online.
• Learn how to do interviews/cut tape for daily on-air assigned spots.

Required Qualifications
• Completed undergraduate degree and have 2 years of relevant professional experience, OR have completed a graduate degree, OR equivalent 2-4 professional experience.
• Experience with digital editing for interviews and tape selection.
• Experience with writing for radio or for online platforms.
• Experience working with a team to create daily content.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working on an editorial team with deadline experience.
• Must have the ability to multitask across several areas, including writing, cutting audio, researching, and filing on-air and online copy.
• Must have strong organizational and communication skills.
• Proficient in Adobe Audition or similar digital audio software.
• Self-starter with an appetite for learning radio.
