The Executive Director, develops and implements the vision and strategy for Marketplace content, on all digital platforms and on-demand content, fostering new ideas, developing new talent, and expanding the on-demand portfolio for audiences beyond the traditional core public radio audience while maintaining Marketplace’s mission and focus. You will provide editorial and create design leadership for marketplace.org, social, other digital offerings, podcast and video content teams connecting our content with new audiences.
You will oversee new content development for on-demand podcasts, establishing the strategy and processes that are inclusive and aimed at nurturing creative ideas and people. You will work with people across the organization, working with both traditional broadcast journalists and digital-first journalists. You will accelerate Marketplace’s ability to effectively navigate and lead in digital content spaces and to engage new audiences through Marketplace’s unorthodox and explanatory storytelling, and our pursuit of distinct angles that make the economy make sense to our audience.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Executive Director works collaboratively with the Executive Editor, to align content development direction and priorities with the overall Marketplace multi-platform content vision.
Minimum Compensation: Los Angeles -$134,112. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure, geographic location and internal equity.

Your Role:
• Provide the overall vision and implementation plan for Marketplace’s digital and on-demand strategy.
• Ensures that multi-platform content executes on the Marketplace mission of raising the economic intelligence of audiences.
• Develops and articulates the content strategy as well as metrics for success, ensuring goals are achieved across Marketplace.
• Creates innovative ways to position Marketplace content for maximum audience and impact across multi- platforms
• Oversee new on-demand development projects, ensuring the Marketplace voice and storytelling style is successfully translated in new content offers.
• Continually evaluate existing on-demand offerings to determine ability to meet goals for reach, relevance and revenue. Make final decision on additional seasons/ongoing production after collaborating with revenue, marketing, and other editorial stakeholders.
• Develops strategy to integrate online activity creatively with on-air production activity
• Cultivate new strategies and performance metrics for Marketplace.org.
• Identifies new content partnership opportunities.
• Assists General Manager and Executive Editor in developing and executing digital video strategy.
• Hire, supervise, train, and manage direct staff through providing work direction, constructive performance coaching, mentorship, performance meetings, and on-going feedback.
• Foster a creative and productive work environment.
• Oversee budgeting for new content production, including personnel and non-salary expenses, annual as well as long-range forecasting, monitoring and compliance.
• Support the ongoing work of revenue areas by drafting the framework for grant proposals; meet with individual and institutional donors and manage received grants as required.

Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required.
• 10 years of relevant work experience, to include strategic planning, program management and successful content development experience
• 7 years of experience at supervisory/management level.
• 5 years of experience with digital production

• Distinguished track record in content production including developing producers, talent, and external partnerships.
• Proven strategic thinking, budget development, prioritization, and management skills.
• Ability to critically interpret audience research.
• Creative problem solver: ability to work cross functionally to identify and realize deliverables required for growth.
• Demonstrated success building new audiences through effective digital audience engagement strategies

• Experience managing people remotely
