Position Summary:
The Manager, Development Operations provides expertise and oversight of Development Operations across American Public Media Group’s philanthropic development divisions including Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), Southern California Public Radio (SCPR), and all national programs. This position is responsible for managing the Development Operations team; database and system maintenance; external vendor relationships; and reconciliation with Finance.
Work Location: Remote

Position Responsibility:
Process Leadership for Gift Processing & Donor Data Management
• Oversee Development Operations systems management for MPR, SCPR, and national programs, maintaining the highest level of service and quality for all operations.
• Ensure audit trails, quality controls, and financial controls are in place and monitor adherence.
• Serve as team lead on internal and external audits and ensure ongoing compliance with standards.
• Serve as the team lead for the annual tax substantiation process.
• Design, implement, and maintain processes to allow for the accurate and detailed tracking of donor gifts, campaigns, and designations, leading the development operations teams on best practices relating to the unique needs of each donor segment.
• Manage the standards for coding of financial transactions, partnering with Finance, IT, and the Analytics teams.
• Establish and maintain guidelines, SOPs, and documentation for all development operations processes.
• Partner with internal teams to ensure quality donor experiences.
• Lead Development Operations role in resolving donor concerns and questions.
Systems Management and Change Project Work
• Identify and implement improvement opportunities in quality and efficiency of operations.
• Manage Development Operations role in projects that improve donor experience and processes.
• Partner with internal teams on database maintenance and upgrades.
• Liaison with new and existing external vendors as needed.
• Collaborate with internal teams to research and build implementation plans for new payment methods and channels.
Team Leadership
• Hire, supervise, train, and manage direct staff through coaching, mentorship, performance meetings, and on-going feedback, partnering with Human Resources on performance issues as needed.
• Foster a creative and productive work environment.
• Set prioritization levels for company and team projects that balance the ongoing responsibilities of the team.
• Demonstrate commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, including participation in the broader organization’s EIDA efforts.
• Work within a team framework to achieve organization goals.
Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
• 4-6 years of related experience.
• 2 years of supervisory/management experience.

• Knowledge of audit trails and financial compliance practices.
• Knowledge and skill in effective record maintenance.

• Work independently and proactively with minimal direction/supervision.
• Excellent organizational skills; sensitive to detail and deadlines in a multitasking environment.
• Strong project management skills.
• Must possess excellent customer services skills and a friendly and professional attitude.
• Strong knowledge of and skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and be willing to learn new software applications.
