Job Title: Part-Time Associate Producer, Social Media
Location: Pasadena, CA (Hybrid)
LAist is hiring a part-time Associate Producer, Social Media to help grow its audience by creating content that is useful, engaging, and inclusive. You’ll work closely with editors, reporters, producers, and visual journalists to ensure that LAist’s editorial goals and love for Los Angeles are represented across social media accounts. This role involves strategizing on social content, monitoring emerging social trends, and engaging with the community.
Responsibilities:
• Implement a cohesive social media strategy across LAist accounts to increase reach and engagement
• Identify shareable story elements and translate them into social content
• Manage organic content for social news accounts when the audience is most active
• Pitch compelling headlines and collaborate with colleagues on critical stories
• Monitor social media tips, DMs, and trends for newsroom leads
• Create platform-specific content to support impactful journalism
• Jump into breaking news events to aid in newsgathering and prevent misinformation
• Creatively use evergreen content from LAist’s archives
• Engage with audiences on social media to strengthen the connection with LAist’s journalism
Requirements:
• Two or more years of experience in production, editorial, or related fields
• Ability to support diversity and inclusion in the workplace
• Excellent headline writing and copy-editing skills
• Knowledge of social newsgathering techniques and common web analytics tools (Google Analytics, Sprout Social, Chartbeat)
• Familiarity with LAist’s voice and a nuanced understanding of journalism ethics
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multitasking abilities
• Experience using Photoshop in ethical journalism
Preferred Skills/Experience:
• Fluency in Spanish or another language commonly spoken in Southern California
• Knowledge of L.A. history and current events
• Experience in journalism and navigating social media during breaking news events
Work Schedule:
24 hours per week (Saturday, Sunday, Monday), hybrid with some work outside standard office hours.
