POSITION: Manager, Marketing
DEPARTMENT: AFI FEST
LOCATION: Los Angeles Campus
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Manager, AFI FEST Marketing is responsible for managing all aspects of AFI FEST's marketing plan. In addition, the Manager, AFI FEST Marketing is also responsible for strategically creating and implementing plans to reach festival attendance and sales goals, manage fulfillment goals with media partners and advertising outlets and for identifying cross-promotional relationships.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
• Collaborate with the Director, AFI Festivals and the AFI Chief Communications Officer (CCO) to establish the festival's marketing strategy and pass sales goals.
• Create and execute written marketing plans to include audience and competitive analysis, messaging, paid and bartered media plan, publicity plans, consumer and industry promotions, along with a timeline for creative materials.
• Collaborate with the AFI Marketing and Communications team to develop a digital marketing strategy for AFI FEST.
• Pursue, negotiate, secure and manage media partnerships with press outlets (radio, television, print, etc.) and community partners for promotional tie-ins and initiatives that lead to ticket and pass sales.
• Prepare media partner contracts for review and approval.
• Collaborate with the Senior Manager, AFI FEST Guest and Cultural Relations and AFI FEST Community Partners staff to ensure that all marketing efforts and benefits across department are synchronized and adhere to the overall marketing strategy.
• Plan, negotiate, reserve and fulfill paid advertising as an integrated marketing approach.
• Track pass sales and communicate status to the Director, AFI Festivals and AFI CCO.
• Collaborate with the AFI FEST Box Office team on the strategy for the dissemination of ticket and pass sales information.
• Collaborate with the AFI Advancement, Membership and Alumni teams on the strategy and content of the communication to the various AFI constituents regarding the festival's deadlines and ticket and pass sales windows.
• Work closely with the Director, AFI Festivals regarding media sponsor and community partner benefits, promotional opportunities and programming-specific tie-ins.
• Fulfill, monitor and track media partner benefits, specifically ticket and pass allotments and any on-site activation (e.g. signage, panels and/or any other events).
• Coordinate and execute media sponsored events (i.e. panel discussions, receptions or conversations); ensure media sponsors are included in event promotion, planning.
• Collaborate with AFI and media sponsors' Publicity and Social Media teams to ensure maximum awareness of all planned events.
• Confirm and coordinate promotional opportunities, including obtaining media sponsor deliverables (e.g. artwork, gobos, logos, ads, banners etc.) and maintain a record of materials received.
• Submit and track all projects submitted to the AFI Creative Services team via AFI's web-based project management system (Gemini); consult with the Traffic Manager, AFI Creative Services to ensure all creative materials and deadlines are met.
• Track promotional artwork and consult with the AFI Creative Services team on festival program guide and program insert materials and deadlines.
• Oversee distribution and inventory of all festival guides and collateral materials.
• Track media impression numbers and value for the master Impression Grid, and deliver a detailed grid of final impression numbers to the Director, AFI Festivals and AFI CCO.
• Provide a comprehensive wrap report as outlined in the AFI FEST policy book and deliver a digital file and a hard copy of the report to the Director, AFI Festivals during the exit interview. All job specific reports and files must be well organized and submitted during the exit interview. A copy of the AFI FEST policy book is available for reference.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum three years of marketing, media and promotions experience required.
• In-depth knowledge of the media and film community.
• Exceptionally detail-oriented with the proven ability to handle numerous tasks with appropriate follow-up and reporting activities while not losing sight of the big picture.
• Ability to work independently while being an integral member of a high-functioning team.
• Proven project management skills with the ability to take a project from conception through completion with minimal supervision.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts and procedures in simplistic terms.
• Strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills coupled with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
• Strong diplomacy skills and professionalism are mandatory; this includes the ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion.
• Excellent computer skills with expertise in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) using the Apple Macintosh platform; FileMaker Pro and Internet savvy.
• Possess a positive and professional attitude with the ability to work as a member of a high-energy, results oriented team.
• Ability to work calmly under pressure.
• Personal integrity with the ability to inspire confidence and trust.
SUPERVISION:
The Manager, AFI FEST Marketing performs all duties and responsibilities under the guidance and supervision of the Director, AFI Festivals and the Director, Production and Operations. During designated festival timeframes, the Manager, AFI FEST Marketing will interface daily with festival staff while working closely with the AFI Marcom and Advancement teams.
