Amazon is looking for a driven, strategic, customer-centric business leader with experience owning a high growth business operation, to help grow our Music Merch business. Music and fashion have been intertwined for decades, and this vendor manager will launch buzzworthy artist merch collections that authentically connect artists and fans on Amazon. This role will be responsible for business development, vendor management, negotiations, line planning/curation, forecasting, and launching collections in partnership with marketing and creative teams.
The Amazon Music Merch team is responsible for building a destination of official music merchandise and connecting fans and artists through merch. This Vendor Manger will report within the Amazon Music Merchandising team and will work closely with marketing managers, creative PMs, and external partners to shape the Music Merch category on Amazon and Amazon Music channels. They will own the end-to-end relationship with selling partners, from on-boarding brands and selection, through high-visibility activations, and to long-term, sustainable growth.
The successful candidate should have experience building strong relationships, driving significant top and bottom line results, and managing multiple responsibilities within an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment. This role will work with content creators, strategic vendors, and brands across multiple categories including Softlines (Shoes, Apparel, and Accessories) and Hardlines (Kitchen, Home, and Electronics). The candidate must have the leadership presence and communication skills to represent Amazon at all levels of our partners' organizations and be comfortable working with creative teams. The candidate must also possess strong analytical skills and be comfortable drawing metrics-based conclusions by leveraging and interpreting data while working with cross-functional teams across strategic, marketing, and operational business issues. The right candidate stays on top of the fashion and music industry and competitive trends and can execute at both a strategic and tactical level to drive sales and margin growth while ensuring a best-in-class customer experience. The ideal candidate has strong business judgment with a track record of successful negotiations and overall relationship management. He/she will be able to define and drive long-term objectives and strategy for the business. Proven analytical thinking, project management skills, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills are musts.
In this role you will:
• On-board and long-term manage/grow new-to-Amazon partners, ensuring best-in-class customer experience at launch amid high-visibility activations
• Invent new ways to connect artists and their fans through merch initiatives and develop unique artist merch collections that are disruptive in the marketplace
• Act as the 'business owner' for assigned partners/brands/campaigns, possessing a complete understanding (inclusive of the strategic context) of internal and external variables that impact your business (this entails owning forecasting, monitoring, understanding and reporting on the business, along with responsibility for driving projects and promotions to achieve business objectives)
• Have a thorough understanding of the fashion and music industry, seasonality and business trends/events, and continually monitor competitor/industry developments
• Maximize Amazon's business profitability and selection expansion opportunities
• Manage vendor relationships - manage supplier/partner contracts, manage day-to-day relationships, and negotiate and secure marketing funds
• Identify new approaches for growing our merch selection, drive marketing initiatives to increase category awareness, and create processes to better manage the performance of the category over the long term
• Create business plans for new opportunities and develop and execute project plans, incorporating merchandising and pricing strategies
• Coordinate cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external parties, while meeting tight deadlines
• Conduct financial analysis of business opportunities to meet and exceed revenue and profitability targets
• Represent Amazon in meetings with senior industry executives
Qualifications
• 5 years experience in Account Management, Project/Program Management, or Buying
• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience using data to influence business decisions
• Experience driving internal cross-team collaboration
• 5 years of relevant experience in retail, Project/Program Management, Buying, and/or business management/consulting with a proven track record of delivering results
• 5 years' experience in negotiations, vendor management, pricing and promotion, and product development
• Relevant experience working in an apparel, fashion, or merch business
• Experience working with creative directors, visual designers, and manufacturers to create new products
• High threshold for working in an ambiguous, fast paced environment start-up like environment – figuring it out and adapting as you go
• Ability to think and lead in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
• Comfortable with ''hands-on'' management of tasks, and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
• Ability to own, manage and speak to a P&L
