Alt.vfx is looking for a National Head of Production to join the team. This position will be based in the Brisbane studio with travel to the Sydney studio.
The Head of Production is responsible for the management of all production throughout the company including the team of Producers, VFX Supervisors/Lead Creatives and artists. This is a key project management/financial role and integral to the success of the studio.
As well as oversight and responsibility for crewing, scheduling and managing costs on individual projects the Head of Production will form part of the Executive Management team.
The Head of Production will be key point of contact for issues arising in VFX productions, escalating issues and making recommendations to the senior management team as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Management
Management of Producers, Coordinators and VFX crew
Assessing local production needs, allocating relevant VFX Producers and production teams to each project
Organise and chair project debriefs, post and/or mid mortems; makes recommendations and actions outcomes
Responsibility for monitoring production tools and workflows, especially as they pertain to multi-site working
To oversee scheduling and advise Production to assess crewing needs for all projects
To liaise with other studio locations on their resource availability
To work with Recruitment in the review and selection of prospective production candidates
Manage freelancers and outsourcing requirements, including negotiation of rates
Executive VFX Production
To maintain an overview of all VFX producers' schedules (local and global), ensuring projects are completed to highest standard achievable, on time and within budget
To meet regularly with VFX Producers to monitor project budgets (local and combined) and ensure that they are working within given targets
To engage the production team; mentoring, support and training as needed
Financial
Partner with CFO and with EP/Sales to set accurate budgets, forecasts and business plans
Monitoring project costs in line with production progress and overall budgetary targets
Responsible for ensuring the correct data is provided for to Finance and subsequent reports are produced in a timely manner; Weekly Project Report for each live project / Weekly Bid vs Actual for each live project
To meet regularly with VFX Producers to monitor project budgets and ensure that they are working within given targets - including running weekly production meetings
Qualifications
Extensive experience (at least 10 years) in VFX in a Senior role
Thorough understanding of the VFX pipeline and post-production process
Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively with clients, producers, vfx artists and senior management, both written and verbal
Exemplary organisational skills, with experience of using scheduling, project and resource management tools, and of managing multiple projects simultaneously
Calm under pressure, resourceful and a creative problem solver, used to working to strict deadlines and on own initiative
Experience hiring staff and freelance artists, and hiring, managing and mentoring production staff
Bachelor's or Master's degree with an emphasis on accounting or finance a bonus
This is a pivotal role within the company, and as such, carries with it a high degree of responsibility.
