Established in 2003 by the Academy's Board of Governors, the Science and Technology Council provides a forum for the exchange of information, promotes cooperation among diverse technological interests within the industry, sponsors publications, fosters educational activities, and preserves the history of the science and technology of motion pictures.
Responsibilities:
• Manage and/or participate in selected Council technical projects and initiatives, which includes creating planning documents, running or attending project committee meetings, engaging in hands-on engineering and technical research and development work, working with and providing technical support and subject-matter expertise to Council and Academy members, staff, and outside consultants and industry partners, monitoring and reporting on progress, and advancing projects to completion.
• Author specifications and document procedures for engineering research, measurement, and analysis for the Council, and support the authoring, publication, and distribution of Council-related documents, web content, and multimedia.
• Attend standards-body and other relevant industry meetings, write internal reports on these activities, and participate in the creation of standards documents.
• Engage in continuing education, tracking and keeping up to date on new technical developments that have the potential to impact Council work and/or motion pictures more broadly.
• Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technology field. Master's degree a plus.
• 10 years of experience in motion picture production and postproduction technology, process, and system design.
• Proven project management experience.
• Experience in programming and software development; fluency in Linux/Unix, MacOS, and Windows, including scripting; fluency in Python; familiarity with Matlab.
• Knowledge of imaging science, image processing, color science, photography and cinematography, video and audio preferred.
• Familiarity with photographic and laboratory equipment, including digital cinema cameras, video hardware, HD-SDI, etc. preferred.
• Must be highly organized with methodical attention to detail.
• Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team while anticipating needs, taking initiative, and problem-solving.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to use diplomacy when managing sensitive relationships with Council members and industry partners.
